Appointment of bishop of Tacuarembó, Uruguay

The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Pedro Ignacio Wolcan Olano, of the clergy of Mercedes, currently vicar general and parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, as bishop of the diocese of Tacuarembó, Uruguay.

The Rev. Pedro Ignacio Wolcan Olano was born in Nueva Helvecia on 21 October 1953. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Uruguay and was ordained a priest on 21 September 1986 and incardinated in Mercedes. He has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of Mercedes (1986-1991), parish priest of Santísimo Sacramento (1991-2005), and at the same time secretary of the National Commission of Popular Pastoral Care of the CEU. In 2005 he became parish priest of Santísima Trinidad, and since 2006 he has served as parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Since 2015 he is also vicar general of Mercedes.
