Appointment of apostolic nuncio to Nicaragua

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as apostolic nuncio to Nicaragua the Rev. Msgr. Waldemar Stanisław Sommertag, nunciature counsellor, elevating him at the same time to the titular see of Maastricht, with the dignity of archbishop.

Rev. Msgr. Waldemar Stanisław Sommertag

Rev. Msgr. Waldemar Stanisław Sommertag was born in Więcbork, Poland, on 6 February 1968. He was ordained a priest on 30 May 1993.

He is incardinated in Pelplin.

He holds a degree in canon law.

He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 19 June 2000, and subsequently served in the Pontifical Representations in Tanzania, Nicaragua, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Palestine and Cyprus, and in the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State.

He knows Italian, German, Russian, English and Spanish.
