Appointment of bishop of San José dos Pinhais, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of San José dos Pinhais, Brazil, S.E. Msgr. Celso Antônio Marchiori, transferring him from the diocese of Apucarana.

H.E. Msgr. Celso Antônio Marchiori

H.E. Msgr. Celso Antônio Marchiori was born on 14 August 1958 in Campo Largo, in the archdiocese of Curitiba, State of Paraná. He completed his studies in philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Curitiba (1981-1983) and in theology at the Studium Theologicum Claretianum of Curitiba (1984-1987). He then attended the School for Formators in São Paulo (1991-1994).

He received priestly ordination on 6 March 1988 and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Curitiba, where he held the following positions: spiritual director (1988) and subsequently rector of the “São José” minor seminary (from 1989-2005); parish administrator and then parish vicar of the Shrine of “Santa Terezinha do Menino Jesus”; spiritual director of the “Bom Pastor” philosophical seminary (1996-2005); rector of the “Santíssimo Sacramento” theological seminary (2006-2009); and pastor of the parish of the “Santíssimo Sacramento” (2006-2009).

He has also served as episcopal vicar; member of the presbyteral council, of the college of consultors and of the archdiocesan pastoral council; ecclesiastical assistant of the “Movimento das Capelinhas” and the “Equipes de Nossa Senhora”; and archdiocesan counsellor for various pastoral groups.

He was appointed as bishop of Apucarana on 8 July 2009 and received episcopal ordination on the following 28 August.
