Appointment of bishop of Cametá, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Cametá, Brazil, Rev. Fr. José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp., currently provincial superior of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in São Paulo.

Rev. Fr. José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp.

The Rev. Fr. José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp., was born on 30 November 1962 in Ipixuna, diocese of Cruxeiro do Sul in the State of Acre. He attended a course in philosophy at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Manaus (1983-1984) and theology at the major seminary of São Paulo (1987-1989; 1992). In addition, he was a missionary in Nigeria (1990-1991).

He gave his perpetual vows on 18 November 1989 in the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, for which he was ordained a priest on 6 December 1992. During his pastoral ministry he held the following offices: pastoral service in Belo Horizonte and Vilhena (1992-2002); formator of students of philosophy and theology in the “Padre Laval” Community in Jardim Planalto, São Paulo (2002-2008); executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission for the Missionary Action and Interecclesial Cooperation of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference (2008-2012). Since 2 February 2012 he is provincial superior of the Province of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Brazil, in São Paulo.

 

Appointment of bishop of Innsbruck, Austria

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Innsbruck, Austria, Rev. Hermann Glettler, currently episcopal vicar for Caritas and for evangelisation in the diocese of Graz-Seckau.

Rev. Hermann Glettler

The Rev. Hermann Glettler was born on 8 January 1965 in Übelbach, Steiermark. After his high school examinations in the minor seminary of the diocese of Graz, he entered the major seminary and carried out his studies at the Theological Faculty of the University of Graz with the grade of Magister. At the same time he also obtained the Magister in art history at the same university.

He was ordained a priest on 23 June 1991 and incardinated in the clergy of Graz-Seckau.

He was subsequently chaplain and curate for youth pastoral ministry, before being appointed as parish priest of Graz-St. Andrä and Karlau in 1999.

Since 2015 he has served as episcopal vicar for Caritas and for evangelisation.
