Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Tucumán, Argentina

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Tucumán, Argentina, Rev. Carlos Alberto Sánchez, parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Merced in San Miguel de Tucumán.

Msgr. Carlos Alberto Sánchez was born in San Miguel de Tucumán on 24 April 1963. He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1988 for the archdiocese of Tucumán, where he has held the following offices: vicar of the parishes of Corazón de María, San Pio X, Nuestra Señora de Luján and Nuestra Señora del Rosario, spiritual director and rector of the major seminary, vicar general (2007-2011) and episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry (2012-2014).

Since 2011 he has served as priest of the Nuestra Señora de la Merced parish, delegate for youth and vocational pastoral ministry, professor in the major seminary and member of the college of consulters.
