The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Tambacounda, Senegal, presented by H.E. Jean-Noel Diouf, and has appointed H.E. Msgr. Jean-Pierre Bassène, bishop of Kolda, as apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of Tambacounda.
Appointment of bishop of Saint Mary Queen of Peace of the Syro-Malankara faithful in the United States and Canada
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Saint Mary Queen of Peace of the Syro-Malankara faithful of the United States and Canada H.E. Philipose Mar Stephanos Thottathil, currently auxiliary bishop of Tiruvalla, India, transferring him from the titular see of Sozopoli di Emimonto.
H.E. Msgr. Philipose Mar Stephanos Thottathil
Born on 9 Mary 1952 in Ranni, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, H.E. Msgr. Thottathil completed his institutional studies in philosophy and theology at the Papal Seminary of Pune and was ordained a priest on 27 April 1979. After serving in several parishes he obtained a doctorate in moral theology at the Alphonsianum Academy, Rome.
He has since held the following offices: vice rector of the minor seminary; head of the Mission in Delhi; director of the hospital of Pushpagiri; professor of moral theology; dean of theology and rector of St. Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary; and bursar and protosyncellus of Tiruvalla (2003-2005). He was consecrated as auxiliary bishop of Tiruvalla on 13 March 2010, and assigned the titular see of Sozopoli di Emimonto.
