Appointment of bishop of Bettiah, India

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Bettiah, India, the Rev. Peter Sebastian Goveas, vicar general of the diocese of Bhagalpur.

Rev. Peter Sebastian Goveas

The Rev. Peter Sebastian Goveas was born on 8 February 1955 in Hosabettu, Hospet, Mangalore, diocese of Mangalore, Karnataka. After secondary school, he entered the St. John’s Regional Minor Seminary, Bhagapur, to become a priest for the diocese of Bhagalpur. He carried out his studies in philosophy at St. Albert’s College, Ranchi (1975) and at the Morning Star College, Barrackpore, West Bengal (1975-1978), and in theology at St. Albert’s College, Ranchi (1979-1983). He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calcutta (1978). He was ordained a priest on 9 December 1983 for the diocese of Bhagalpur. He has served the diocese in the following roles:
Assistant to the parish priest of the Christ the King Church, Damruhat (1983); parish priest in Damruhat (1984-1988); parish priest of the St. Pius X Church, Maheshmunda (1988-1997); parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church, Susni (1997-2009) parish priest of St. Clare’s Church, Dakaita (from 2009 to the present). In 2013 he was also administrator of St. Thomas School, Dakaita, and in 2014 of St. Thomas School, Damri; dean of the deanery of Lalmatia (2009-2013), diocesan consulter since 2008 and member of the presbyteral council since 2009; from 2013 to the present he has served as vicar general of the diocese of Bhagalpur.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Pope has appointed as auxiliary of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Rev. Faustino Burgos Brisman, C.M., currently provincial director of the Daughters of Charity of the Caribbean Region, assigning him the titular see of Bararo.

Rev. Faustino Burgos Brisman, C.M.

The Rev. Faustino Burgos Brisman, C.M., was born on 15 February 1960 in San Francisco de Macoris, in the diocese of the same name. He entered the novitiate of the Lazzarist Fathers in 1982, and was ordained a priest on 30 May 1987.

He subsequently obtained a licentiate in religious sciences in Santo Domingo, and diplomas relating to management and administration of educational centres and private colleges. He also attended a course in spirituality in Paris. He has accumulated varied ministerial experience, both in the parish environment and as a seminary formator, as well as the director of various educational centres of his Congregation in Santo Domingo. He also served as a missionary in Haiti. From 2003 to 2015 he served as Provincial of his religious Institute for the region of the Antilles for three terms.

From 2015 to the present he has served as provincial director of the Daughters of Charity for the Caribbean Region.
