Appointment of bishop of Cleveland, United States of America

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as bishop of Cleveland, United States of America, His Excellency Msgr. Nelson J. Perez, currently titular bishop of Catro and auxiliary of the diocese of Rockville Centre, New York.

Msgr. Nelson J. Perez

Msgr. Nelson J. Perez was born on 16 June 1961 in Miami, Florida, to Cuban parents. After obtaining a B.A. at the “Montclair State University” in New Jersey (1984), he carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania, where he obtained a Master’s degree in theology (1985-1989). He was ordained a priest on 20 May 1989 for the archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Since priestly ordination, he has held the following offices: vicar of the Saint Ambrose parish in Philadelphia (1989-1993); vice director of the archdiocesan office for Hispanic faithful (1990-1993); director and founder of the Catholic Institute for Evangelization (1993-2002); pastor of the Saint William parish in Philadelphia (2002-2009); and pastor of the Saint Agnes parish in West Chester (2009-2012). In addition, he has served as member of the presbyteral council of the archdiocese of Philadelphia (2003-2005). On 24 October 2009 he was named Prelate of Honour of His Holiness.

He was appointed as titular bishop of Catro and auxiliary of Rockville Centre, New York, on 8 June 2012, and received episcopal consecration the following 25 July.

As auxiliary of Rockville Centre he is episcopal vicar of the Eastern Vicariate and for the Hispanic apostolate. Within the episcopal conference he is president of the “Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs”, and member of the “Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church” and of the “Subcommittee of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development”. He recently led the national meeting “Encuentro V” for Hispanic pastoral care.

 

Appointment of bishop of Juneau, United States of America

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Juneau, United States of America, the Rev. Fr. Andrew E. Bellisario, C.M., currently rector of the “Our Lady of Guadalupe” Concathedral in Anchorage.

Rev. Fr. Andrew E. Bellisario, C.M.

The Rev. Fr. Andrew E. Bellisario, C.M., was born on 19 December 1956 in Los Angeles, California, in the same archdiocese. After attending the “Saint Stephen Elementary School” in Monterey Park (1963-1971) and the “Saint Vincent” minor seminary in Montebello (1971-1975), he entered the Congregation of the Mission in Santa Barbara. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the “Saint Mary” seminary in Perryville, Missouri (1976-1980) and in theology at the “De Andreis” seminary in Lemont, Illinois (1980-1984).

He was ordained a priest on 6 June 1984 for the Congregation of the Mission. Since priestly ordination he has held the following offices: dean of students at the “Saint Vincent” minor seminary in Montebello (1984-1986); vicar (1986-1989) and administrator (1989-1990) of the “Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal” parish in Montebello; pastor of the “Saint Vincent de Paul” parish in Huntington Beach (1990-1995) and the “Sacred Heart” parish in Patterson (1995-1998); bursar and consulter of the Province (1996-2002); director of the “De Paul Evangelization Centre” in Montebello (1998-2002); Provincial (2002-2010); director of the “Daughters of Charity” in Los Altos (2003-2015); rector of the “Our Lady of Guadalupe” Concathedral in Anchorage (since 2014) and superior of the “International Missions in Alaska” (since 2015).

 

Appointment of auxiliary of Bangassou, Central African Republic

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Bangassou, Central African Republic, the Rev. Fr. Jesús Ruiz Molina, M.C.C.I., parish priest in Moungoumba, vicar forane and diocesan coordinator of the Commission for Catechesis in the diocese of M’Baïki.

He has been assigned the titular see of Are di Mauritania.

Rev. Fr. Jesús Ruiz Molina, M.C.C.I.

The Rev. Fr. Jesús Ruiz Molina, M.C.C.I., was born on 23 January 1959 in La Cueva de Roa, in the diocese of Burgos, Spain. He studied in the minor seminary and then the major seminary in the diocese of Burgos. He studied philosophy and theology in the major seminary of Moncada. He continued his theological studies in Paris, attending courses in religious sciences. He gave his first vows on 25 May 1985 and his solemn vows on 24 April 1988. He was ordained a priest on 11 July 1987.

He subsequently held the following offices: missionary animator in Spain (1987-1989); vicar and then parish priest of Immaculée Conception in Bédjondo in the diocese of Sarh, Chad (1990-1995); formator of the Comboni postulate and head of Comboni lay missionaries in Spain (1996-2001); and provincial of the new Province in Chad (2002-2008). He carried out his studies in the University of Salamanca, Spain in 2008, and a linguistic apprenticeship in the St. Ann parish of Dekoa, in the diocese of Kaga-Bandoro, Central Africa (2009). Since 2008 he has served as parish priest in Moungoumba, in the diocese of M’Baïki, Central Africa, and vicar forane and diocesan coordinator of the Commission for Catechesis.

From 2013 to 2015 he was also Counsellor to the Comboni Delegation in Central Africa.
