The Holy Father Francis has thanked His Eminence Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller at the conclusion of his five-year term as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and as President of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei”, the Pontifical Biblical Commission and the International Theological Commission, and has appointed as his successor in the same offices His Excellency Msgr. Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer, S.J., titular archbishop of Tibica and secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

 

Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Croatia

The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Croatia His Excellency Msgr. Giuseppe Pinto, titular archbishop of Anglona, currently apostolic nuncio in the Philippines.

 

Appointment of auxiliaries of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Rev. Jesús Castro Marte, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, rector of the Catholic University and pastor of the university parish, assigning him the titular see of Giufi, and the Rev. Msgr. Ramón Benito Ángeles Fernández, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, territorial episcopal vicar of the vicariate “Santo Domingo Este”, assigning him the titular see of Febiana.

Rev. Jesús Castro Marte

The Rev. Jesús Castro Marte was born on 18 March 1966 in Guerra, archdiocese of Santo Domingo. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra in the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros. He obtained a licentiate in bioethics from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. He attended various course in Ciencias Religiosas in the Pontifical Seminary Santo Tomás de Aquino in the archdiocese of Santo Domingo and in Recursos Humanos at the Catholic University Madre y Maestra in the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros.

He was ordained a priest on 13 June 1995 and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

From 1995 to 1997 he was vicar of the parish of San Antonio de Padua and Santa Lucía Mártir in La Victoria; from 1997 to 2001 he was pastor of the parish of San Antonio di Padua and Santa Lucía Mártir in La Victoria; from 2001 to 2004, pastor of the parishes of San José, Cristo Rey del Universo and Madre de Dios in the area of Yamasá, Monte Plata; and from 2004 to 2006 he continued his studies in the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, Rome.

He subsequently taught at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra in the archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros. From 2008 to 2012 he was episcopal vicar for the clergy and executive secretary of the presbyteral council of the archdiocese of Santo Domingo; from 2009 to 2010, parish priest of San Ignacio de Loyola; from 2010 to 2012, parish priest of San Juan Bautista de la Salle. From 2011 to 2013 he was vice-rector of the Pontifical Seminary Santo Tomás de Aquino and from 2013 to the present, rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Santo Domingo and pastor of the university parish of the same university.

 

Rev. Msgr. Ramón Benito Ángeles Fernández

The Rev. Msgr. Ramón Benito Ángeles Fernández was born on 17 March 1949 in the city of La Vega, in the diocese of the same name.

He completed his primary studies in the following institutions: Garda Godoy elementary school in La Vega; the Padre Fantino pre-seminary institute in Santo Cerro, La Vega; and the St. Pius X minor seminary in Santiago de los Caballeros.

From 1969 to 1974 he studied at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra, concluding with a licentiate in philosophy and letters and in social work. From 1975 to 1979 he attended the Pontifical Seminary Santo Tomás de Aquino, obtaining a licentiate in social sciences. From 1985 to 1987 he studied at the Alphonsianum Institute in Rome, obtaining a licentiate in moral theology. He also holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the Southeastern University of Florida.

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of La Vega on 23 December 1978.

He is currently incardinated in the archdiocese of Santo Domingo. He belongs to the Schoenstatt Institute of Diocesan Priests.

On 1 October 1996 he was named Chaplain of His Holiness.

He has held the following offices: from 1980 to 1985, rector of the Santo Cura de Ars minor seminary, La Vega, and co-founder and director of the preparatory year (pre-philosophy), La Vega; from 1981 to 1983, parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Fátima, Bonao; from 1983 to 1985, professor of theology at the Catholic Technological University of Cibao (UCATECI); from 1987 to 1991, academic vice-rector of the Pontifical Seminary Santo Tomás de Aquino; from 1992 to 1995, parish priest of La Santísima Trinidad in La Vega and of Cristo Rey in Lima Abajo, La Vega; from 1996 to 2002, rector of the Catholic Technological University of Cibao (UCATECI); from 2001 to 2009, secretary general of the Episcopal Conference; from 2002 to 2016, parish priest of San Antonio de Padua, Gazcue, Santo Domingo; founder of the Catholic Youth Movement of the Dominican Republic; diocesan director of the same Movement; and from 1998 to the present, founder and director of the Centro de Formación Integral Juventud y Familia.

He is currently territorial episcopal vicar of the vicariate “Santo Domingo Este”.

 

Appointment of member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints

The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, archbishop of Florence, Italy, as member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
