Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Curitiba, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Curitiba, Brazil:

Rev. Francisco Cota de Oliveira, of the clergy of the diocese of Divinópolis, currently parish priest of “Nossa Senhora do Pilar” in Pitangui, assigning to him the titular see of Fiorentino;

Rev. Fr. Amilton Manoel da Silva, C.P., currently parish priest of “São Paulo da Cruz” in São Paulo, assigning to him the titular see of Tusuro.

Msgr. Francisco Cota de Oliveira

The Rev. Msgr. Francisco Cota de Oliveira was born on 5 August 1969 in Onça do Pitangui, diocese of Divinópolis, in the state of Minas Gerais. He carried out his studied in philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University in Belo Horizonte (1992-1994), and in the same city he studied theology at the “Dom João Rezende Costa” Institute (1995-1998).

On 1 August 1999 he was ordained a priest and incardinated in the diocese of Divinópolis, where he held the following offices: vicar (1999-2002) and subsequently parish priest (2003-2009) of “Nossa Senhora do Carmo” in Carmo do Cajuru (1999-2009); and parish administrator (2010) and then parish priest (2011-2016) of “Sant’Ana” in Itaúna. He has also served as diocesan assessor for youth pastoral ministry, teacher in the preparatory seminary and on the theology course for laypeople, vicar forane, Promoter of Justice in the diocesan ecclesiastical tribunal, and member of the diocesan economic board.

He is currently parish priest of “Nossa Senhora do Pilar” in Pitangui.

 

Msgr. Amilton Manoel da Silva, C.P.

Msgr. Amilton Manoel da Silva, C.P., was born on 2 March 1963 in Osvaldo Cruz, in the diocese of Marília, state of São Paulo. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Federal Univesrity of Paraná in Curitiba (1992-1995), and in theology at the São Paulo-ITESP Institute of Theology (1997-2000). He gave his religious vows on 18 January 1997 as member of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passionists), and received priestly ordination on 17 December 2000.

Within his Congregation he has held the following offices: formator of postulants (2001-2003); Master of Novices (2006-2012); coordinator of the spirituality team in the province of Calvario (2002-2012) and of the Passionist family of Brazil (2002-2009); coordinator of the formation team for various countries in America (since 2013); member of the team of the General Council for Formation (since 2014); provincial counsellor (2009-2012); and provincial superior of the Passionist province of Calvario in São Paulo (2013-2016). In addition, he has served as assessor of the Conference of Religious of Brazil (Region of Paraná); preacher of spiritual exercises; parish vicar in Colombo-PR and Ponta Grossa-PR.

He is currently parish priest of “São Paulo da Cruz” in the archdiocese of São Paulo.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rev. Juarez Delorto Secco, of the clergy of the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, currently parish priest of the Cathedral, assigning him the titular see of Vegesela di Numidia.

Msgr. Juarez Delorto Secco

Msgr. Juarez Delorto Secco was born on 4 July 1970 in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the diocese of the same name, in the state of Espírito Santo. Before entering the seminary, he studied civil law and exercised the profession of lawyer. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and in theology at the Institute of Philosophy and Theology of the archdiocese of Vitória. He then attended a specialist course in canon law. He is a member of the Association of Priests of the Prado.

He was ordained a priest on 10 March 2001, and incardinated in the diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, where he held the offices of: parish priest of “São Miguel Arcanjo” in Guaçui (2001-2008), parish priest of “São Sebastião” in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (2008-2010); diocesan coordinator of vocational pastoral ministry; member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consulters.

He currently holds the roles of parish priest of the Cathedral, chancellor of the Curia, vice rector of the major seminary, professor of the diaconal school, judge of the ecclesiastical tribunal of the archdiocese of Vitória and regional coordinator of pastoral ministry (region 2).
