Appointment of bishop of Yopal, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Yopal, Colombia, His Excellency Rev. Msgr. Edgar Aristizábal Quintero, titular bishop of Castra di Galba and auxiliary of Medellín, Colombia.

Msgr. Edgar Aristizábal Quintero

Msgr. Edgar Aristizábal Quintero was born in Cartago on 2 December 1965. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy in the major seminaries of Cali and Cartago, and in theology in the major seminaries of Manizales and Cartago. He received priestly ordination on 7 December 1990. He obtained a licentiate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

As a priest he subsequently held the following offices: parish priest of “San Gabriel Arcángel” in Cartago; parish priest of “San Joaquín y Santa Ana” in Cartago, rector of the “Ecce Homo” Shrine in Ricaurte, professor and rector of the minor seminary of Cartago, rector of the major seminary of Cartago and director of the department for Doctrine of the Colombian Episcopal Conference.

On 4 May 2011 he was appointed as titular bishop of Castra di Galba and auxiliary of Medellín. He received episcopal ordination on the following 4 June.
