Telegram of the Holy Father
Dott. Carlo Nicora
I have learned the sad news of the departure of the dear Cardinal Attilio Nicora, and I wish to express to you and other relatives, as well as to the archdiocese and brethren of his beloved Ambrosian Church, my heartfelt condolences. He leaves a memory full of esteem and recognition of the valuable service he offered with unique competence both to the Church and to civil society in Italy, especially in the legal field with regard to the revision of the Lateran Agreement and the implementation of the system of economic support for the Catholic Church and support for the clergy, and to the Holy See, as the rigorous and far-sighted president of APSA and subsequently the AIF. By the heavenly intercession of Mary Most Holy and St. John Paul II, who sent him to guide the diocese of Verona and created him a cardinal, I entrust my prayers for the eternal repose of his priestly soul, and impart my apostolic blessing to you and to those who mourn his passing.
