Resignation of the vicar apostolic of Hosanna, Ethiopia, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the apostolic vicariate of Hosanna, Ethiopia, presented by Msgr. Woldeghiorghis Matheos, and appointed as vicar apostolic of Hosanna the Rev. Seyoum Franso Noel, delegate vicar of the apostolic vicariate of Meki and national Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, assigning him the titular see of Eminenziana.

Rev. Seyoum Franso Noel

The Rev. Seyoum Franso Noel was born on 20 August 1970 in Ethiopia, in the Arsi zone (district of Gololcha, village of Waragu) in the apostolic vicariate of Meki. After his secondary studies at the Catholic school of Meki, he studied philosophy and theology in the Franciscan Capuchin Institute in Addis Abeba, affiliated to the Pontifical Urbanian University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in theology.

After priestly ordination on 5 September 1998 for the apostolic vicariate of Meki, he held the following offices: assistant to the rector of the major seminary of Meki in Addis Abeba (1998-1999); rector of the minor seminary of Meki and assistant to the pastor of the Cathedral (1999-2002); and assistant to the secretary of the National Catholic Secretariat in Addis Abeba (2002-2006). From 2002 to 2003 he attended courses in general management at the Alpha Education Institute and Share Company in Addis Abeba, obtaining a diploma, and from 2006 to 2012 he studied missiology at the Pontifical Urbanian University, where he obtained a licentiate and a doctorate, residing in the Pontifical St. Peter’s College.

He has served as vice secretary general of the National Catholic Secretariat in Addis Abeba since 2012, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies since 2013, director of the pastoral department of the Catholic Secretariat since 2016, and delegate vicar of Meki since 2015.

 

Resignation of the bishop of Gap, France, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Gap, France, presented by His Excellency Msgr. Jean-Michel Di Falco Léandri.

The HolyFather has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Gap, France, Rev. Xavier Malle, currently dean of Chinon, parish priest of Notre-Dame-en-Bouchardais and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul-de-Richelieu, and rector of the Notre-Dame de la Prière de l’Île–Bouchard shrine.

Msgr. Xavier Malle

The Rev. Xavier Malle was born on 14 September 1965 in Valenciennes in the archdiocese of Cambrai. He studied law at the University of Nancy and political sciences at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris.

In 1994 he was admitted to the preparatory course of the Communauté de l’Emmanuel in Namur, Belgium, in 1995 he was sent to the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome, and in 2001 he obtained a degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, with the thesis “Comme un surcroît d’amour, la réparation spirituelle à l’école de Sainte Marguerite-Marie, essai d’actualisation”.

He was ordained a priest on 2 July 2000 for the archdiocese of Tours. He has been a member of the Communauté de l’Emmanuel since 23 February 1997.

From 2000 to 2001 he studied in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University, and subsequently held the following offices: vicar of the parish of Île-Bouchard, Richelieu and Sainte-Maure (2001-2009); diocesan spiritual advisor of the Scouts d’Europe (2002-2007); coordinator of the vocations service of the Communauté de l’Emmanuel (2008-2011); vicar of the parishes of Saint-Jean-de-Beaumont and Saint-Côme-en-Loire in Tours (2009-2011); member of the Presbyteral Council of Tours (2010-2013); parish priest of Notre-Dame-en-Bouchardais and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul-de-Richelieu, and rector of the Notre-Dame de la Prière de l’Île-Bouchard shrine (since 2010); dean of Chinon and member of the Episcopal Council of Tours (since 2013).

 

Appointment of apostolic nuncio in Great Britain

The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Great Britain His Excellency Msgr. Edward Joseph Adams, titular archbishop of Scala and currently apostolic nuncio in Greece.

 

Appointment of coadjutor of Đà Lat, Vietnam

The Holy Father has appointed as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Đà Lat, Vietnam, Rev. Dominic Nguyen Van Manh, judicial vicar of the same diocese.

Rev. Dominic Nguyen Van Manh

The Rev. Dominic Nguyen Van Manh was born on 12 August 1955 in Can Tho. From 1966 to 1973 he studied at the Simon Hoa Minor Seminary of Đà Lat. From 1973 to 1977 he studied philosophy and theology at the St. Pius X College in Đà Lat, staying in the same college as a supervisor from 1977 to 1980. He was ordained a priest on 29 May 1994 for the diocese of Đà Lat.

After ordination he held the offices of vicar of the parish of Tan Hoa, Bao Loc (1994-2003) and has served as judicial vicar of the diocese of Đà Lat since 2009. From 2003 to 2009 he studied at the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome, where he obtained a doctorate in canon law, and resided in the Pontifical St. Paul’s College.

 

Appointment of special envoy to the National Eucharistic Congress of Angola (Huambo, 12-18 June 2017)

The Holy Father has appointed Cardinal Manuel Clemente, Patriarch of Lisbon, as his special envoy at the first National Eucharistic Congress of Angola, to be held in Huambo from 12 to 18 June 2017.
