The Holy Father has:
- appointed Fr. Rudolf Nyandoro as bishop of Gokwe (area 26,000, population 635,000, Catholics 78,124, priests 33, religious 37), Zimbabwe. The bishop-elect was born in Gweru, Zimbabwe in 1968 and was ordained a priest in 1998. He attended courses in philosophy from 1991 to 1994 in the St. Charles Lwanga major seminary of Chimanimani, Mutare, and completed his theological studies in Chishawasha, Harare. In 2015 he obtained a doctorate in pastoral counselling from the University of South Africa. He has held the following pastoral roles in the diocese of Masvingo: vicar in the Mukaru Mission (1999), administrator of the Cathedral (2000-2006), and rector of the minor seminary (2007-2009) and of the Bondolfi Teachers’ College (2010-2015). Since 2015 he has served as chancellor of the diocese of Masvingo and professor at the Bondolfi Teachers’ College. He succeeds Bishop Angel Floro Martínez, I.E.M.E., whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese was accepted by the Holy Father.
- confirmed the office of the following Members of the dicasteries of the Roman Curia: Cardinal Blase Joseph Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, in the Congregation for Bishops; Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga, archbishop of Bangui, in the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples; Cardinal Joseph William Tobin, archbishop of Newark, in the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life; and Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, archbishop of Tlalnepantla, in the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
