The Holy Father has appointed:

Msgr. Daniele Gianotti as bishop of Crema (area 278, population 103,700, Catholics 102,000, priests 102, religious 48), Italy. The bishop-elect was born in 1957 in Calerno, Italy and was ordained a priest in 1982. He holds a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, and a diploma in theology and patristic sciences from the Augustinianum Institute, Rome. He has served in a number of pastoral, administrative and academic roles, including secretary and prefect of studies at the Institute of Religious Sciences; AGESCI ecclesiastical assistant for the Reggio Emilia zone; member of the College of Consulters; director of the diocesan liturgical office and animator of the diocesan school of music for liturgy; secretary of the diocesan presbyteral council; and episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry. He is currently lecturer at the Interdiocesan Theological Study of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla, Modena, Parma and Carpi and at the Institute of Religious Sciences in Reggio Emilia; canon of the Cathedral and prefect of studies in the diocesan seminary; lecturer in systematic theology and patrology in the Bolognese Theological Academic Study and in the Higher Institutes of Religious Sciences in Bologna and Modena; episcopal delegate for the continuing formation of young clergy; head of administration of Confirmation and episcopal vicar for pastoral planning and formation; visiting lecturer in systematic theology in the Theological Faculty of Emilia-Romagna; and episcopal vicar for culture. He has also collaborated with the bishop on pastoral visits and as a member of the Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue, and as animator of vocational pastoral care and the formation of the laity in the diocesan mission in Kibungo, Rwanda. He was one of the originators of the “Hospice” project, which has worked since 2001 and consists of a hospital for the care of patients with terminal cancer in the province of Reggio Emilia, as well as a cultural centre for reflection on the theme of death in Christian life. He is currently professor of theology in the Theological Faculty of Emilia-Romagna, and episcopal vicar for culture.

Msgr. Edilson Soares Nobre as bishop of Oeiras (area 15,096, population 141,000, Catholics 126,000, priests 31, religious 18), Brazil. The bishop-elect was born in 1965 in Touros, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil and was ordained a priest in 1991. He studied philosophy and theology in the “São Pedro” major seminary in Natal and holds a licentiate in social communication from the Pontifical Salesian University, Rome. He has served in a number of pastoral roles in the archdiocese of Natal, including parish vicar of “São Paulo Apóstolo” in São Paulo do Potengi; pastor of the parish of “Nossa Senhora da Conceição” in Lajes and of “Nossa Senhora da Conceição” in Macau; parish administrator of “Nossa Senhora da Conceição” in Nova Cruz and pastoral assistant for communication. He is currently vicar general of Natal.
