The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Antônio Emídio Vilar, S.D.B., of São Luiz de Cáceres, Brazil, as bishop of São João da Boa Vista (area 7,089, population 660,000, Catholics 579,000, priests 145, permanent deacons 18, religious 351), Brazil. He succeeds Bishop David Dias Pimentel, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese was accepted by the Holy Father.
