The Holy Father:

- accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Galway and Kilmacduagh, Ireland, presented by Bishop Martin Drennan, in accordance with canon 401 paragraph 2 of the Code of Canon Law.

- accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ossory, Ireland, presented by Bishop Séamus Freeman S.A.C., in accordance with canon 401 paragraph 2 of the Code of Canon Law.

- appointed Msgr. Fintan Monahan as bishop of Killaloe (area 4,523, population 129,430, Catholics 119,343, priests 119, religious 218), Ireland. The bishop-elect was born in Tullamore, Ireland in 1967 and was ordained a priest in 1991. He holds a licentiate in theology from the national seminary of Maynooth and a diploma in higher education from the University of Galway. He has served in a number of roles in the diocese of Tuam, including deputy priest, teacher and chaplain at St. Jarlath’s College and diocesan secretary. He is currently secretary of the diocesan commission for finance, director of vocational pastoral care and archdiocesan head of protection for minors.
