Vatican City, 15 June 2016 – The Holy Father has appointed Fr. Didier Berthet as bishop of Saint-Dié (area 5,903, population 378,830, Catholics 314,400, priests 85, permanent deacons 29, religious 198), France. The bishop-elect was born in Boulogne-Bilancourt, France in 1962 and was ordained a priest in 1992. He holds a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, and has served in a number of pastoral roles including head of chaplains, parish vicar and parish priest in Rueil Malmaison, parish priest and dean in Antony, episcopal vicar and episcopal chancellor in Nanterre, and formator in the interdiocesan seminary of Saint-Sulpice in Issy-les-Moulineaux, of which he is currently rector. He succeeds Bishop Jean-Paul Mathieu, whose resignation from the pastoral governance of the same diocese upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
