An international gathering of university administrators, faculty, and education practitioners as well as leaders of NGO’s, international agencies, and humanitarian organizations who are committed to enhancing and expanding educational opportunities for refugees and displaced peoples. From September 26 to 28, 2022 the Refugee & Migrant Education Network (RME), Being the Blessing Foundation, and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical Gregorian University, will organize an international conference in Rome on “Initiatives in Refugee & Migrant Education. Moving forward – Diving deeper – Together”. The conference is taking place at a time of tremendous disruption and major challenges.

Participants will include UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi; Thomas Smolich SJ, Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service International; Card. Michael Czerny, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development; Anthony J. Cernera, Ph.D., Founder of RME Network; Inna Sovsun, Member of Ukraine Parliament and Former First Deputy Minister of Education and Science; as well as numerous experts, international education workers and education officers from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The conference was designed to leave plenty of room for networking and collaboration to explore initiatives, opportunities and ideas for collaboration, and to find strategies to respond to today’s crises. One of the plenary will be focus on Ukranian Refugee education crisis, but many other topics will be addressed in presentations and workshops. What have we learned in the post-pandemic? How/if we will return to normalcy, and how will we approach the future? What was the impact of Covid 19 on refugee education? How can we better understand the root causes of forced migration? What can be the best practices for amplifying refugee voices in academics? How to respond to today’s crisises?
