Prima della Benedizione il nuovo Papa ha rivolto ai fedeli le parole che seguono:

La pace sia con tutti voi!
Fratelli e sorelle carissimi, questo è il primo saluto del Cristo Risorto, il Buon Pastore, che ha dato la vita per il gregge di Dio. Anch’io vorrei che questo saluto di pace entrasse nel vostro cuore, raggiungesse le vostre famiglie, tutte le persone, ovunque siano, tutti i popoli, tutta la terra. La pace sia con voi!
Questa è la pace del Cristo Risorto, una pace disarmata e una pace disarmante, umile e perseverante. Proviene da Dio, Dio che ci ama tutti incondizionatamente.

أريد أن أشكر أيضًا إخوتي الكرادلة جميعهم، الذين اختاروني لأكون خليفة بطرس وأسير معكم، كنيسةً واحدة، تسعى دائمًا إلى السّلام والعدل، وتسعى دائمًا إلى العمل مثل رجالٍ ونساءٍ أمناء ليسوع المسيح، ودون خوف، لإعلان بشارة الإنجيل، ولنكون مرسلين.
أنا ابن للقدّيس أغسطينس، أنا راهب أغسطينيّ، الذي قال: "معكم أنا مسيحيّ، ومن أجلكم أنا أسقف". بهذا المعنى يمكننا كلّنا أن نسير معًا نحو الوطن الذي أعدّه الله لنا.
تحيّة خاصّة لكنيسة روما! يجب علينا أن نسعى معًا لنعرف كيف نكون كنيسة مرسلة، وكنيسة تبني الجسور، والحوار، ومنفتحة دائمًا على الاستقبال، مثل هذه السّاحة، بأذرع مفتوحة للجميع، ولكلّ من هو محتاج إلى محبّتنا، وإلى حضورنا، وإلى الحوار والمحبّة.
وإن سمحتم لي بكلمة، أوجّه تحيّة إلى الجميع، وبصورة خاصّة إلى أبرشيّتي العزيزة في تشيكلايو (Chiclayo)، في البيرو (Perù)، حيث رافق الشّعب المؤمن أسقفه، وشاركه إيمانه، وقدّم الكثير الكثير، ليستمرّ في أن يكون كنيسة أمينة ليسوع المسيح.
لكم جميعًا، أيّها الإخوة والأخوات في روما، وفي إيطاليا، وفي العالم كلّه: نريد أن نكون كنيسة سينوديّة، وكنيسة تسير إلى الأمام، وكنيسة تسعى دائمًا إلى السّلام، وتسعى دائمًا إلى المحبّة، وتسعى دائمًا لأن تكون قريبة، وخاصّة من المتألّمين.
اليوم هو يوم الابتهال إلى سيّدتنا مريم العذراء سيّدة بومبي. أمّنا مريم العذراء تريد دائمًا أن تسير معنا، وأن تكون قريبة منّا، وأن تساعدنا بشفاعتها ومحبّتها. لذلك أودّ أن أصلّي معكم. لنصلِّ معًا من أجل هذه الرّسالة الجديدة، ومن أجل الكنيسة كلّها، ومن أجل السّلام في العالم، ولنطلب هذه النّعمة الخاصّة من مريم، أمّنا:
السّلام عليكِ يا مريم...
