In merito alle conclusioni dell’indagine canonica preliminare relativa a una accusa anonima contro il Cardinale Gérald C. Lacroix, Arcivescovo di Québec
L’8 febbraio 2024 il Santo Padre ha affidato ad André Denis, giudice della Corte Superiore del Québec in pensione, il mandato di fare luce su un’accusa formulata nell’ambito di una azione legale collettiva intentata contro l’Arcidiocesi di Québec.
Il rapporto dell’indagine canonica preliminare effettuata dal giudice è stato portato a termine il 6 maggio 2024 e consegnato al Santo Padre nei giorni successivi.
Alla luce dei fatti esaminati dal giudice, il rapporto non consente di identificare alcuna azione che si configuri come cattiva condotta o abuso da parte del Cardinale Gérald C. Lacroix. Di conseguenza, non è prevista una procedura canonica più approfondita.
Il Santo Padre ha autorizzato il giudice André Denis a diffondere un comunicato che riassuma gli elementi della sua indagine e lo ha autorizzato anche a rispondere ad eventuali domande in merito.
Il Santo Padre rivolge un profondo ringraziamento al giudice André Denis per aver portato a termine, entro i tempi previsti, il mandato che gli era stato affidato e che ha svolto con imparzialità nel contesto della causa collettiva mossa nei confronti dell’Arcidiocesi di Québec.

Concernant les conclusions de l’enquête préliminaire canonique relative à une allégation anonyme visant le Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix, Archevêque de Québec
Le Saint-Père a confié le 8 février 2024 au juge André Denis, juge retraité de la Cour Supérieure du Québec, le mandat de faire la lumière sur cette allégation formulée dans le cadre d’une action collective intentée contre l’Archidiocèse de Québec.
Le rapport de l’enquête préliminaire canonique menée par le juge Denis a été complété le 6 mai 2024 et communiqué au Saint-Père dans les jours suivants.
À la lumière des faits examinés par le juge Denis, ce rapport ne permet pas d’identifier quelque geste d’inconduite ou d’abus de la part du Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix. En conséquence, une procédure canonique plus poussée n’est pas envisagée.
Le Saint-Père a autorisé le juge André Denis à diffuser un communiqué résumant les éléments de son enquête et à répondre aux questions à ce sujet.
Le Saint-Père adresse ses profonds remerciements au juge André Denis pour avoir mené à bien, dans les délais prescrits, le mandat qui lui avait été confié et qu’il a rempli avec impartialité dans le contexte d’une action collective visant l’Archidiocèse de Québec.

Concerning the conclusions of the preliminary canonical investigation regarding an anonymous accusation against Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec
On 8 February 2024, the Holy Father entrusted to André Denis, retired Judge of the Superior Court of Québec, the mandate to shed light on an accusation made in the context of a class action lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Québec.
The report of the preliminary canonical investigation carried out by the judge was concluded on 6 May 2024, and consigned to the Holy Father in the following days.
In the light of the facts examined by the judge, the report does not permit to identify any actions that amount to misconduct or abuse on the part of Cardinal Gérald C. Lacroix. Consequently, no further canonical procedure is foreseen.
The Holy Father has authorized Judge André Denis to issue a statement summarizing the elements of his investigation, and has also authorized him to answer any questions that may arise on the matter.
The Holy Father extends his profound thanks to Judge André Denis for having completed, within the prescribed time, the mandate entrusted to him and which he carried out with impartiality in the context of the class action lawsuit brought against the Archdiocese of Quebec.
