Questa mattina, nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza i Membri della Papal Foundation e ha rivolto loro il saluto che pubblichiamo di seguito:
Saluto del Santo Padre
Eminenze, Eccellenze,
cari fratelli e sorelle, buongiorno a tutti!
Sono lieto di salutare tutti voi, Membri, Amministratori e Delegati della Papal Foundation, in occasione del vostro pellegrinaggio annuale a Roma. Durante questo tempo pasquale celebriamo la risurrezione del Signore e il suo trionfo sul peccato e sulla morte. Infatti, la pietra posta davanti al sepolcro è stata rotolata via e noi siamo invitati ad alzare lo sguardo a Gesù e ad accoglierlo nella nostra vita, a dirgli ancora una volta “sì” (cfr Omelia nella Veglia Pasquale, 30 marzo 2024). In questo modo, la perenne presenza di Cristo risorto sarà sempre per noi fonte di una gioia che nessuno potrà toglierci (cfr Gv 16,22).
Fin dalla sua nascita, la Papal Foundation è stata veicolo di questa gioia pasquale portando la vicinanza, la compassione e la tenerezza dell’amore di Gesù a tanti fratelli e sorelle in tutto il mondo. Il vostro sostegno a vari progetti educativi, caritativi e apostolici favorisce lo sviluppo integrale di molti, tra cui poveri, rifugiati, migranti e, attualmente, un numero crescente di persone colpite dalla guerra e dalla violenza. Nello stesso tempo, le borse di studio destinate a laici, consacrati, seminaristi e sacerdoti di Paesi in via di sviluppo consentono loro di proseguire gli studi presso le Università Pontificie di Roma e forniscono a quanti le ricevono gli strumenti per testimoniare più efficacemente il Vangelo sia nei loro Paesi d’origine sia altrove.
Mediante queste diverse e lodevoli iniziative, voi continuate ad aiutare i Successori di Pietro a far crescere numerose Chiese locali e a prendersi cura di tante persone svantaggiate, in risposta alle consegne affidate dal Signore all’Apostolo (cfr Lc 22,32; Gv 21,17). Per tutta la vostra generosità, esprimo la mia sentita gratitudine: grazie, grazie tante.
Come ben sapete, il vostro lavoro trova la sua sorgente e la sua ispirazione nella nostra fede cattolica, che chiede di essere continuamente alimentata dalla partecipazione alla vita della Chiesa, dai Sacramenti e dal tempo trascorso in silenzio alla presenza del Signore nella preghiera e nell’adorazione. Non dimenticate di adorare. La preghiera dell’adorazione noi l’abbiamo trascurata, dobbiamo riprenderla: adorare, in silenzio. A questo proposito, la vostra visita avviene durante l’Anno della Preghiera, mentre la Chiesa si prepara a celebrare il Giubileo del 2025. Attraverso la perseveranza nella preghiera, noi diventiamo a poco a poco «un cuore solo e un’anima sola» (At 4,32) sia con Gesù che con gli altri, e ciò si traduce in solidarietà e condivisione del nostro pane quotidiano (cfr Lettera all’Arcivescovo Rino Fisichella per il Giubileo 2025, 11 febbraio 2022). Questo frutto della vita spirituale è importante per il vostro nobile impegno, perché, anche se forse non le incontrerete mai direttamente, i programmi della Papal Fondation promuovono un legame spirituale e fraterno con persone di molte culture, lingue e regioni diverse che ricevono assistenza. Il vostro servizio è tanto più necessario nel nostro tempo, segnato dall’individualismo e dall’indifferenza.
Vi porgo di cuore i migliori auguri per la vostra attività e per il vostro pellegrinaggio a Roma. Affido tutti voi e le vostre famiglie all’intercessione di Maria, Madre della Chiesa, e vi do la mia benedizione come pegno di gioia e di forza nel Signore Risorto. Per favore, non dimenticatevi di pregare per me. Grazie!

Your Eminences, Your Excellencies,
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning to everyone!
I am pleased to greet all of you, the Members, Trustees, and Stewards of The Papal Foundation on the occasion of your annual pilgrimage to Rome. During this Easter season, we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection and his triumph over sin and death. Indeed, the stone in front of the tomb has been rolled back, and we are invited to look up at Jesus and welcome him into our lives, and once again say “yes” to him (cf. Homily for the Easter Vigil, 30 March 2024). In this way, the abiding presence of the Risen Christ will always be a source of joy that no one can take from us (cf. Jn 16:22).
Since its inception, the Foundation has been a vessel of this Easter joy by bringing the closeness, compassion and tender love of Jesus to countless brothers and sisters throughout the world. Your support of various educational, charitable, and apostolic projects enhances the integral development of so many, including the poor, refugees, migrants, and nowadays the increasingly large numbers of those affected by war and violence. At the same time, the scholarships provided to laity, consecrated religious, seminarians and priests from developing nations enable them to pursue studies at Pontifical universities in Rome, at the heart of the Church, and equip their recipients to bear witness to the Gospel more effectively both in their home countries and beyond.
Through these various worthy initiatives, you continue to help the Successors of Peter to build up many local churches and care for large numbers of the less fortunate, thus fulfilling the mandates entrusted to the Apostle by our Lord (cf. Lk 22:32, Jn 21:17). For all of your generosity, thank you very much.
As you well know, your work finds its ultimate source and inspiration in our Catholic faith, which must be continually nourished by participation in the life of the Church, the reception of the sacraments, and time spent quietly before the Lord in prayer and adoration. Let us not forget to adore the Lord. We have neglected this form of prayer and we need to take it up again: adoring the Lord in silence. In this regard, your visit occurs in the midst of the Year of Prayer as the Church is preparing to celebrate the Jubilee of 2025. Through our perseverance in prayer, we gradually become “a single ‘heart and soul’ (cf. Acts 4:32)” with both Jesus and others, “which then translates into solidarity and the sharing of our daily bread” (cf. Letter to Archbishop Rino Fisichella for the Jubilee 2025, 11 February 2022). This fruit of our spiritual lives is important for your noble efforts, for although you may never meet them personally, the programs of The Papal Foundation foster a spiritual and fraternal bond with people from many different cultures, languages, and regions who receive assistance. Your service is all the more necessary in our time, marked as it is by a growing culture of indifference and individualism.
I offer my cordial best wishes as you visit the See of Peter, and I ask you to please pray for me. In entrusting you and your families to the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, I impart my Blessing as a pledge of joy and strength in the Risen Lord. Thank you!
