Questa mattina, 11 settembre 2019, alle ore 8.30, si è svolto a Casa Santa Marta il primo incontro del Comitato Superiore per raggiungere gli obiettivi contenuti nel Documento sulla Fratellanza Umana per la pace mondiale e la convivenza comune, costituito nell’agosto scorso.
Il giorno 11 settembre è stato scelto come segno della volontà di costruire vita e fratellanza dove altri hanno seminato morte e distruzione.
Il Comitato è composto da 7 membri. La Santa Sede vi è rappresentata da S.E. Mons. Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot MCCJ, Presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Interreligioso, e da Mons. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, Segretario particolare del Santo Padre. L’Università Al-Azhar vi partecipa con il suo responsabile, il Prof. Dott. Mohamed Husin Abdelaziz Hassan, e Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Salam, Giudice ed ex Consigliere del Grande Imam Al-Tayyib. Gli Emirati Arabi Uniti sono rappresentati da S.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Culture, Yasser Saeed Abdulla Hareb Almuhairi, scrittore e giornalista, e da Sultan Faisal Al Khalifa Alremeithi, Segretario Generale dei Muslim Elders.
Il Santo Padre ha salutato i membri e i responsabili della segreteria del Comitato e ha donato ai membri una copia del Documento sulla Fratellanza Umana realizzata dalla Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. Ha poi rivolto alcune parole di gratitudine e di incoraggiamento ai membri del Comitato, “artigiani della fraternità”, perché siano all’origine di una nuova politica, “non solo della mano tesa, ma del cuore aperto”.
Dopo essere stato ricevuto dal Sostituto della Segreteria di Stato, S.E. Mons. Edgar Peña Parra, il Comitato è tornato a Casa Santa Marta per dare avvio ai lavori.
Nel corso della sessione sono stati nominati il Presidente, S.E. Mons. Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, MCCJ, e il Segretario, Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Salam, nonché i membri della Commissione Esecutiva, Mons. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, Yasser Saeed Abdulla Hareb Almuhairi e Sultan Faisal Al Khalifa Alremeithi. Inoltre, si è lavorato sul testo dello Statuto che regolerà l’operato del Comitato.
Il Comitato ha espresso la propria gratitudine a Papa Francesco per l’accoglienza e l’incoraggiamento, al Grande Imam Al-Tayyib per il suo messaggio di esortazione, e a Sua Altezza Muhamad Ben Zaid per il sostegno offerto al Comitato stesso.
Sono stati inoltre individuati alcuni passi concreti per dare avvio alla sua attività. Tra questi, rivestono particolare importanza la proposta, che sarà avanzata alle Nazioni Unite, di proclamare una Giornata della Fratellanza Umana in un giorno da definire tra il 3 e il 5 febbraio, nonché la decisione di proporre ad alcuni rappresentanti di altre religioni di far parte del Comitato.
Infine, è stato fissato il prossimo incontro per il giorno 20 settembre 2019 a New York.
La riunione si è conclusa alle ore 13:00 e ciascuno ha pregato secondo la propria fede per le vittime dell’11 settembre e di ogni atto di terrorismo.

Today, 11th September 2019, at 8:30 a.m., the first meeting of the Higher Committee for achieving the goals contained in the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together, established in August this year, took place in Casa Santa Marta. The date was chosen as a sign of the will to build life and fraternity where others sowed death and destruction.
The Committee is made up of 7 members. The Holy See is represented by H.E. Mons. Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, MCCJ, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, and by Mons. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, Personal Secretary of the Holy Father. The University of Al-Azhar participates with its Head, Prof. Dr Mohamed Husin Abdelaziz Hassan, and with Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Salam, Judge and Ex Advisor to Grand Imam Al-Tayyib. The United Arab Emirates are represented by H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Culture, Yasser Saeed Abdulla Hareb Almuhairi, writer and journalist, and Sultan Faisal Al Khalifa Alremeithi, Secretary General of the Muslim Elders.
The Holy Father greeted the members and heads of the secretariat of the Committee and gave the members a copy of the Document on Human Fraternity realized by the Vatican Apostolic Library. He then expressed some words of gratitude and encouragement to the members of the Committee, “artisans of fraternity”, for them to be at the origin of new policies “not only of outstretched hands, but of open hearts”.
After being received by the Substitute of the Secretariat of State, H.E. Mons. Edgar Peña Parra, the Committee returned to Casa Santa Marta to start its works.
During the session, the members appointed the President of the Committee, H.E. Mons. Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, MCCJ, and the Secretary, Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel Salam, as well as the members of the Executive Office, Mons. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, Yasser Saeed Abdulla Hareb Almuhairi and Sultan Faisal Al Khalifa Alremeithi. They also worked on the text of the Statutes that will regulate the Committee’s activity.
The Committee expressed its gratitude to Pope Francis, for his welcome and encouragement, to Grand Imam Al-Tayyib for his encouraging words, and to His Highness Muhamad Ben Zaid, for the support he has offered the Committee.
The Committee then identified some concrete steps to initiate its activity. These include the proposal, to be made to the United Nations, to define a date, between 3rd and 5th February, to be proclaimed Day of Human Fraternity, and the decision to invite representatives of other religions to be part of the Committee.
Finally, the members set the Committee’s next meeting on 20th September 2019, in New York.
The meeting ended at 1:00 p.m. and each member prayed, according to his own faith, for the victims of 11th September and of every act of terrorism.
