Dialogo del Santo Padre con i Ministranti
Alle ore 17.50 di oggi, il Santo Padre Francesco ha fatto il suo ingresso in Piazza San Pietro, dove ha incontrato i partecipanti al 12mo Pellegrinaggio Internazionale dei Ministranti dell’Associazione Coetus internationalis ministrantium (CIM), in corso a Roma dal 30 luglio al 3 agosto e il cui motto, ispirato al versetto 14 del Salmo 34, è: “Cerca la pace e perseguila”.
Al Suo arrivo, dopo il giro in papamobile tra i giovani e il saluto del Vescovo di Zrenjanin (Serbia), S.E. Mons. Ladislav Nemet, Presidente del CIM, il Santo Padre ha risposto alle domande che gli sono state rivolte da cinque ministranti provenienti dal Lussemburgo, dal Portogallo, da Antigua e Barbuda, dalla Germania e dalla Serbia.
Subito dopo ha avuto inizio un momento di preghiera comunitaria presieduta dal Santo Padre, nel corso della quale Papa Francesco ha pronunciato una breve omelia.
Presenti oltre 60.000 ragazze e ragazzi provenienti da 18 Paesi (Italia, Belgio, Francia, Croazia, Lussemburgo, Austria, Portogallo, Romania, Russia, Svizzera, Serbia, Slovacchia, Repubblica Ceca, Ucraina, Ungheria, Stati Uniti e terre caraibiche come Antigua e Barbuda) ed accompagnati dal S.E. Mons. Ladislav Nemet.
Dalla Germania è arrivato il gruppo più numeroso di ministranti - circa 50.000 chierichetti - accompagnato dal Presidente della Commissione per i giovani della Conferenza Episcopale Tedesca, Mons. Stefan Oster, S.D.B., Vescovo di Passau, e da numerosi altri presuli membri della Conferenza Episcopale.

«Fate tutto per la gloria di Dio»: così San Paolo ci esorta nella lettura appena ascoltata. Servire la gloria di Dio in ogni cosa che facciamo è il criterio decisivo per il nostro agire, la sintesi massima di ciò che significa vivere l’amicizia con Gesù. È l’indicazione che ci orienta quando non siamo sicuri di quale sia la cosa giusta da fare; ci aiuta a riconoscere la voce di Dio dentro di noi, che ci parla nella coscienza perché possiamo discernere la sua volontà. La gloria di Dio è l’ago della bussola della nostra coscienza.
San Paolo ci parla anche di un altro criterio: sforzarsi di piacere a tutti in tutto perché giungano alla salvezza. Siamo tutti figli di Dio, abbiamo gli stessi desideri, sogni e ideali. A volte qualcuno resta deluso, e siamo noi che possiamo riaccendere la luce, trasmettere un po’ di buonumore. Così è più facile andare d’accordo e testimoniare nella vita di ogni giorno l’amore di Dio e la gioia della fede. Dipende dalla nostra coerenza che i nostri fratelli riconoscano Gesù Cristo, l’unico salvatore e la speranza del mondo.
Forse vi chiedete: “Come posso farlo io? Non è un compito troppo alto?”. È vero, è una missione grande, ma è possibile. Ancora San Paolo ci incoraggia: «Fatevi i miei imitatori, come io lo sono di Cristo». Sì, possiamo vivere questa missione imitando Gesù come hanno fatto l’apostolo Paolo e tutti i santi. Guardiamo ai santi, che sono il Vangelo vissuto, perché hanno saputo tradurre il messaggio di Cristo nella propria vita. Il santo di oggi, Ignazio di Loyola, che da giovane soldato pensava alla propria gloria, al momento buono è stato attirato dalla gloria di Dio, e ha scoperto che lì è il centro e il senso della vita. Facciamoci imitatori dei santi; facciamo tutto per la gloria di Dio e per la salvezza dei fratelli. Ma, state attenti e ricordatevi: in questa strada di seguire i santi, in questa strada della santità, non c’è posto per i giovani pigri. Grazie!

“Do everything for the glory of God” (1 Cor 10:31). So Saint Paul told us in the reading we just heard. To give glory to God in everything we do: that is the ultimate criterion for all our words and actions. It sums up what it means to be a friend of Jesus. It shows us the way when we are unsure about the right thing to do. It helps us recognize God’s voice speaking in the depths of our conscience so that we can know his will. God’s glory is the needle of our moral compass.
Saint Paul also gives us another criterion: “Try to please everyone in everything, so that they may be saved. All of us are God’s children; we all have the same desires, hopes and aspirations. When some of us grow discouraged, the rest of us should try to brighten their day and cheer them up. This helps all of us to remain friends and to show the love of God and the joy of faith in our everyday lives. If we keep doing this, it will help our brothers and sisters to come to know Jesus, our one Saviour and the hope of the world.
Maybe you are wondering: “Can I do this? Isn’t it too much for me?” Certainly, it is a great mission, but it is not impossible. Once again, Saint Paul encourages us: “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ”. We can carry out this mission by imitating Jesus, like the apostle Paul and all the saints. Let us look to the saints. They are the living Gospel, because they translated the message of Christ in their own lives. Today is the feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. As a young soldier, he was concerned with his own glory yet, in good time, he was attracted by the glory of God, and there he discovered the heart and meaning of life itself. So let us imitate the saints. Let everything we do be for God’s glory and the salvation of our brothers and sisters. But be attentive and remember: follow the saints on this path. On this path of holiness there is no room for the lazy. Thank you!

»Tut alles zur Verherrlichung Gottes!« (1Kor 10,31), dazu ermuntert uns der heilige Paulus in der eben gehörten Lesung. Der Verherrlichung Gottes in allem zu dienen, was wir tun, ist das entscheidende Kriterium für unser Handeln, die kürzeste Zusammenfassung dessen, was es bedeutet, die Freundschaft mit Jesus zu leben. Es ist der Wegweiser, der uns Orientierung gibt, wenn wir nicht sicher sind, was das Richtige zu tun ist. Es hilft uns, in unserem Inneren die Stimme Gottes zu vernehmen, der im Gewissen zu uns spricht, damit wir seinen Willen erkennen können. Die Verherrlichung Gottes ist die Kompassnadel für unser Gewissen.
Der heilige Paulus spricht von einem weiteren Kriterium: sich bemühen, allen in allem entgegenzukommen, damit sie gerettet werden (vgl. 1Kor 10,33). Wir alle sind Kinder Gottes; wir haben dieselben Wünsche, Träume und Ideale. Zuweilen ist jemand enttäuscht, und wir sind diejenigen, die das Licht wieder entzünden, ein wenig gute Laune vermitteln können. So ist es leichter, gut miteinander auszukommen und im alltäglichen Leben die Liebe Gottes und die Freude des Glaubens zu bezeugen. Es hängt von der Stimmigkeit unseres Lebens ab, ob unsere Brüder und Schwestern Jesus Christus erkennen, den einzigen Erlöser und die Hoffnung der Welt.
Vielleicht fragt ihr euch: »Wie kann ich das tun? Ist das nicht eine zu schwierige Aufgabe für mich?« Es ist wahr, das ist eine anspruchsvolle Mission, aber sie ist möglich. Wieder ist es der heilige Paulus, der uns ermutigt: »Nehmt mich zum Vorbild, wie ich Christus zum Vorbild nehme!« (1Kor 11,1). Ja, wir können diese Mission leben, wenn wir Jesus nachahmen, wie dies der Apostel Paulus und alle Heiligen getan haben. Blicken wir auf die Heiligen, sie sind das gelebte Evangelium, weil sie die Botschaft Christi in das eigene Leben zu übersetzen wussten. Der heutige Tagesheilige Ignatius von Loyola, der als junger Soldat an den eigenen Ruhm dachte, wurde im geeigneten Moment von der Verherrlichung Gottes angezogen und hat entdeckt, dass darin der Mittelpunkt und der Sinn des Lebens besteht. Ahmen wir die Heiligen nach! Tun wir alles zur Verherrlichung Gottes und für das Heil unserer Brüder und Schwestern! Aber passt auf und denkt daran: Auf diesem Weg der Nachfolge der Heiligen, auf diesem Weg der Heiligkeit, ist kein Platz für junge Faulpelze! Danke.

Grazie! Hai detto molto bene: la pace e la Santa Messa vanno insieme. Prima del segno della pace chiediamo al Signore di dare pace e unità alla comunità della Chiesa. La pace è il suo dono che ci trasforma affinché noi, come membra del suo corpo, possiamo provare gli stessi sentimenti di Gesù, possiamo pensare come Lui pensa – gli stessi sentimenti di Gesù, e pensare come Gesù pensa! –, amare come Lui ama. E questo dà pace. E alla fine della Messa siamo inviati con la parola: «Andate in pace», cioè: portate la pace con voi, per darla agli altri, darla con la vostra vita, con il sorriso, con le opere di carità. L’impegno concreto per la pace è la prova del fatto che siamo veramente discepoli di Gesù. La ricerca della pace comincia dalle piccole cose. Per esempio, a casa, dopo un litigio tra fratelli, mi chiudo in me stesso – domando – facendo l’offeso, o provo a fare un passo verso l’altro? So fare la pace nei piccoli gesti? Sono pronto a domandarmi in ogni situazione: “Che cosa farebbe Gesù al mio posto?”. Se facciamo questo, e cerchiamo di metterlo in pratica con decisione, porteremo la pace di Cristo nella vita di ogni giorno e saremo costruttori e strumenti di pace. Grazie.

Come ministranti voi fate, in effetti, un po’ l’esperienza di Marta e Maria. E’ bello se, oltre ai vostri turni di servizio liturgico, sapete da una parte impegnarvi nella vita parrocchiale e dall’altra stare in silenzio alla presenza del Signore: tutt’e due le cose. E così, in questo intreccio di azione e di contemplazione, si riconosce anche il disegno di Dio su di noi: si vede quali sono i talenti e gli interessi che Dio ci mette nel cuore e come svilupparli; ma soprattutto ci si mette umilmente davanti a Dio, così come si è: come siamo, senza truccarci, senza travestirci, così come siamo, davanti a Dio, con i pregi e i limiti, chiedendo a Lui come meglio poter servire Lui e il nostro prossimo. E non abbiate paura di chiedere un buon consiglio quando vi domandate come poter servire Dio e le persone che hanno bisogno di aiuto nel mondo. Ricordatevi che quanto più vi donate agli altri, tanto più riceverete in pienezza voi stessi e sarete felici! Grazie.

Holy Father, as altar servers it makes us sad to see how few of our own age group come to Mass or take part in the life of our parishes. In some countries, for various reasons, the Church is rapidly losing many young people. How can we, and our communities, reach out to these people and bring them back to Christ and to the family of the Church?
[Santo Padre, facendo i ministranti ci rattrista vedere pochi coetanei che partecipano alla Santa Messa e alla vita parrocchiale. La Chiesa, in alcuni paesi, sta perdendo velocemente, per differenti motivi, molti giovani. Come possiamo noi e le nostre comunità raggiungere queste persone e farle tornare a Cristo e alla famiglia della Chiesa?]

Oggi voi, come giovani, potete essere apostoli che sanno attirare gli altri a Gesù. Questo succede se voi stessi siete pieni di entusiasmo per Lui, per Gesù, se Lo avete incontrato, conosciuto personalmente, e siete stati, voi per primi, “conquistati” da Lui. Per questo vi dico: cercate di conoscere e amare sempre di più il Signore Gesù – voglio ripeterlo: cercate di conoscere e amare sempre di più il Signore Gesù –, incontrandolo nella preghiera, nella Messa, nella lettura del Vangelo, nel volto dei piccoli e dei poveri. E cercate di essere amici, con gratuità, di chi è attorno a voi, perché un raggio della luce di Gesù possa arrivare a loro attraverso il vostro cuore innamorato di Lui. Carissimi ragazzi e ragazze, non c’è bisogno di tante parole, sono più importanti i fatti, la vicinanza, il servizio, lo sguardo silenzioso davanti al Santissimo Sacramento. I giovani – come tutti, del resto – hanno bisogno di amici che danno un buon esempio, che fanno senza pretendere, senza aspettarsi qualcosa in cambio. E in questo modo voi fate sentire anche com’è bella la comunità dei credenti perché il Signore abita in mezzo a loro, com’è bello far parte della famiglia della Chiesa. Grazie.

La fede è essenziale, la fede mi fa vivere. Direi che la fede è come l’aria che respiriamo. Non pensiamo ad ogni respiro quanto sia necessaria l’aria, ma quando manca o non è pulita ci accorgiamo di quant’è importante! La fede ci aiuta a cogliere il senso della vita: c’è qualcuno che ci ama infinitamente, e questo qualcuno è Dio. Lui ci ama infinitamente. Possiamo riconoscere Dio come nostro creatore e salvatore; amare Dio e accogliere la nostra vita come dono suo. Dio vuole entrare in una relazione vitale con noi; vuole creare relazioni, e noi siamo chiamati a fare altrettanto. Non possiamo credere in Dio e pensare di essere figli unici! Il solo Figlio Unico che ha Dio è Gesù. Unico perché è Dio. Ma fra gli uomini, non ci sono figli unici di Dio. Pensate a questo! Tutti siamo figli di Dio. Siamo chiamati a formare la famiglia di Dio, cioè la Chiesa, la comunità di fratelli e sorelle in Cristo – siamo «familiari di Dio» come dice San Paolo (Ef 2,19). E in questa famiglia della Chiesa il Signore nutre i suoi figli con la sua Parola e i suoi Sacramenti. Grazie.

Szentatya, a mi ministránsi szolgálatunk szép, nagyon szeretjük. Szolgálni akarjuk az Urat és felebarátunkat. De jót tenni nem mindig könnyű, nem vagyunk még szentek. Hogyan fordíthatnánk át szolgálatunkat a mindennapi életben a szeretet konkrét tetteire az életszentség felé vezető úton?
[Santo Padre, il nostro servizio da ministranti è bello, ci piace tanto. Vogliamo servire il Signore e il prossimo. Ma fare il bene non è sempre facile, non siamo ancora santi. Come possiamo tradurre il nostro servizio, nella vita quotidiana, in opere concrete di carità e in un cammino verso la santità?]

Sì, ci vuole fatica per fare sempre il bene e diventare santi… Sai, la strada per la santità non è per i pigri: ci vuole fatica. Vedo che voi ministranti vi impegnate in questo cammino. Il Signore Gesù ci ha dato un programma semplice per camminare sulla via verso la santità: il comandamento dell’amore di Dio e del prossimo. Cerchiamo di essere ben radicati nell’amicizia con Dio, grati per il suo amore e desiderosi di servire Lui in tutto, e così non possiamo fare altro che condividere il dono del suo amore con gli altri. E per concretizzare il comandamento dell’amore, Gesù ci ha indicato le opere di misericordia. Mi piacerebbe domandare qui se tutti voi conoscete le opere di misericordia. Sono sicuro che i vostri vescovi ve le hanno insegnate. Ma voi, le conoscete bene, quali sono le opere di misericordia? Se voi non le conoscete, come potete farle? È importante: le opere di misericordia. Sono una via impegnativa ma alla portata di tutti. Per fare un’opera di misericordia, non è necessario andare all’università, prendere una laurea. Tutti, tutti possiamo fare le opere di misericordia. Sono alla portata di tutti. Basta che ciascuno di noi cominci a chiedersi: “Che cosa posso fare io, oggi, per venire incontro ai bisogni del mio prossimo?”, di questo prossimo: dei miei fratelli, di mio papà, di mamma, dei nonni, dei miei amici, dei poveri, degli ammalati…; ma uno, uno al giorno. Che cosa posso fare io per venire incontro ai bisogni del mio prossimo? E non importa se sia amico o sconosciuto, connazionale o straniero, è il prossimo. Credetemi, così facendo potete diventare davvero santi, uomini e donne che trasformano il mondo vivendo l’amore di Cristo. È vero, non è facile, costa fatica. Ma, ricordatevi, lo dico un’altra volta: la strada verso la santità non è per i pigri.

Thank you! You put it very well: peace and Holy Mass go together. Just before the sign of peace, we ask the Lord to grant peace and unity to the Church community. Peace is his gift; it transforms us, so that, as members of Jesus’ body, we can share in his sentiments, think as he thinks – the same sentiments as Jesus, and think as Jesus thinks! – love as he loves. And this brings peace. At the end of Mass, we are sent forth with the words: “Go in peace”, that is: take peace with you in order to give it to others, give it through your life, your smile, your works of charity. Concrete commitment to peace is proof of the fact that we are truly Christ’s disciples. Making peace begins with little things. For example, at home after a quarrel, do I go off by myself – let me ask you – and act hurt, or do I make an effort to go back and reach out? Do I know how to make peace with small gestures? Am I willing to ask myself in every situation: “What would Jesus do in my place?” If we can do this, if we really put it into practice, we will bring Christ’s peace to our everyday lives. Then we will be peacemakers and channels of God’s peace. Thank you.

In a real way, as altar servers, you share in the experience of Martha and Mary. It would be wonderful if, alongside your service to the liturgy, you could become more involved in the life of your parish and also spend some time in silence in the Lord’s presence: both of these. In this interplay of action and contemplation, we come to realize God’s plan for us. We see the talents and interests God has given us and how best to develop them. Even more importantly, we place ourselves humbly before God, just as we are: as we are, without masks, just as we are, before God, with our good qualities and our limitations, and ask him how we can best serve him and our neighbour. Don’t be afraid to ask for a word of helpful advice when you are wondering how to serve God and all those people throughout the world who need our help. Remember: the more you give yourself to others, the more you will get back in personal fulfilment and true happiness! Thank you.

Even now, as young people, you can be apostles, capable of drawing others to Jesus. This will happen if you are full of enthusiasm for him, for Jesus, if you have encountered him, if you have come to know him personally, and been yourselves “won over” by him. So here is what I would I say. Try to know and love the Lord Jesus more and more – I want to repeat this: try to know and love the Lord more and more, encountering him in prayer, at Mass, in the reading of the Gospel, in the faces of the lowly and the poor. Try also to be friends, with no strings attached, to all those around you, so that a ray of Jesus’ light can shine on them through your own heart in love with him. Dear young people, there is no need for lots of words; more important are your actions, your closeness, your desire to serve, your silent gaze before the Blessed Sacrament. Young people – and everyone else for that matter – need friends who can give a good example, who are ready to act without expecting anything in return. In this way, you will also help others to see how beautiful is the community of believers, because the Lord dwells in its midst. And to see how beautiful it is to be part of the family of the Church. Faith is essential; faith gives me life. I would say that faith is like the air we breathe. We don’t think, with every breath we take, how necessary air is, but when it isn’t there, or it isn’t clean, we realize right away how important it is! Faith helps us to grasp the meaning of life: that there is Someone who loves us infinitely and that that Someone is God. He infinitely loves me. We can recognize God as our Creator and our Saviour; we can love God and accept that our life is his gift. God wants to enter into a living relationship with us. He wants to build relationships, and we are called to do the same. A person cannot believe in God and then think that he or she is an only child! The only Child God has is Jesus. Let us make an effort to deepen our friendship with God, to be grateful for his love and to want to serve him in all things. In this way, we cannot help but share the gift of his love with others. To make the commandment of love all the more concrete, Jesus gave us the works of mercy. I would like to ask who among you knows the works of mercy. I am sure that your bishops have taught them to you. But you, do you know them well, the works of mercy? If you don’t know them, how can you practice them? This is important: the works of mercy. Weiß ich mit kleinen Gesten Frieden zu schließen? Bin ich bereit, mich in jeder Situation zu fragen: »Was würde Jesus an meiner Stelle tun?« Wenn wir das tun und uns bemühen, das entschieden in die Tat umzusetzen, dann werden wir den Frieden Christi in das alltägliche Leben bringen und Erbauer und Werkzeuge des Friedens sein. Daher sage ich euch: Bemüht euch, Jesus, den Herrn immer besser kennenzulernen und immer mehr zu lieben! Wie können wir im Alltag unseren Dienst in ganz konkrete Werke der Nächstenliebe umsetzen und zu einem Weg zur Heiligkeit machen?
Papst Franziskus: Ja, Anstrengung ist notwendig, um immer das Gute zu tun und heilig zu werden… Weißt du, der Weg zur Heiligkeit ist nichts für Faulpelze: Er verlangt Anstrengung. Ich sehe, dass ihr Ministranten euch auf diesem Weg engagiert. Jesus, der Herr, hat uns ein einfaches Programm gegeben, um den Weg zur Heiligkeit zu gehen: das Gebot, Gott und den Nächsten zu lieben. Ich bin mir sicher, dass eure Bischöfe sie euch gelehrt haben. Aber, ihr kennt sie sicher, welche sind die Werke der Barmherzigkeit? Wenn ihr sie nicht kennt, wie könnt ihr sie dann tun? Das ist wichtig: die Werke der Barmherzigkeit. Sie sind ein anspruchsvoller Weg, der aber für alle erreichbar ist. Um ein Werk der Barmherzigkeit zu vollbringen, muss man nicht zur Universität gehen, kein Diplom haben. Alle, wirklich wir alle können Werke der Barmherzigkeit tun. Sie sind für alle erreichbar. Es reicht, dass ein jeder von uns anfängt, sich zu fragen: »Was kann ich heute tun, um meinem Nächsten in seinen Bedürfnissen zu helfen?« Diesem konkreten Nächsten: meinen Geschwistern, meinem Vater, der Mutter, den Großeltern, meinen Freunden, den Armen, den Kranken … – nur einem einzigen, einem am Tag. Was kann ich tun, um meinem Nächsten in seinen Bedürfnissen zu helfen? Und es ist unwichtig, ob es ein Freund oder ein Unbekannter ist, ein Landsmann oder ein Fremder: er ist der Nächste. Glaubt mir, wenn ihr das tut, könnt ihr wahrhaft heilig werden, zu Männern und Frauen werden, die die Welt verändern, indem sie die Liebe Christi leben. Es stimmt, das ist nicht leicht, es ist anstrengend. Aber denkt daran, ich sage es noch einmal: Der Weg zur Heiligkeit ist nichts für Faulpelze.
