Sull’aereo che questa mattina lo ha portato in Armenia, Papa Francesco come di consueto si è recato a salutare gli operatori dei media che lo accompagnano sul volo papale.
Introdotto dalla presentazione del Direttore della Sala Stampa della Santa Sede, P. Federico Lombardi, S.I., il Papa ha risposto a due domande. Questo il testo del breve colloquio del Papa con i giornalisti:

Santo Padre, benvenuto in mezzo a noi. Le diamo il nostro saluto come comunità “volante” dei suoi amici e collaboratori giornalisti. Siamo, come è abituale in questi viaggi, un po’ più di 70, rappresentiamo come sempre tanti Paesi, tanti media differenti. Ci dicono che in Armenia sono accreditati più di 600 che ci aspettano là, per completare il lavoro poi sul posto. Noi sappiamo che Lei farà la solita conferenza di domande e risposte alla fine, quando torneremo, e staremo anche questa volta all’uso abituale, mentre adesso tutti si aspettano di poterLe stringere la mano e farLe un po’ di saluti. Però, credo che tutti, siccome siamo giornalisti, abbiamo questa mattina due domande in testa su cui chiederemmo che Lei ci dica qualche cosa e poi dopo La lasciamo in pace fino al volo di ritorno.

Le due domande sono: una, a proposito del Suo Continente, cioè la buona notizia che abbiamo sentito ieri della Colombia, dell’andare avanti del processo di pace in Colombia; e la seconda è la notizia con cui ci siamo svegliati stamattina, invece, che riguarda il Continente europeo e l’esito di questo referendum [sulla “Brexit”]. Se Lei ci dice due battute su queste due cose, dopo La lasciamo fare i saluti che desidera…

Papa Francesco:
Buongiorno a tutti, e grazie, grazie tante per la compagnia e per il vostro lavoro: grazie tante. E mi scuso di parlare di fronte e con la schiena, ma dicono che gli angeli non ce l’hanno!

Sulla prima domanda, io sono felice di questa notizia che mi è arrivata ieri: più di 50 anni di guerra, di guerriglia, tanto sangue versato… E’ stata una bella notizia e mi auguro che i Paesi che hanno lavorato per fare la pace e che danno la garanzia che questo vada avanti, “blindino” questo a tal punto che mai si possa tornare, né da dentro né da fuori, a uno stato di guerra. E tanti auguri per la Colombia che adesso fa questo passo.

Sul secondo, la seconda domanda: io ho saputo l’esito finale qui, sull’aereo, perché quando sono uscito da casa ho visto “Il Messaggero” e ancora non era definitivo. E’ stata la volontà espressa del popolo, e questo richiede a tutti noi una grande responsabilità per garantire il bene del popolo del Regno Unito e anche il bene e la convivenza di tutto il Continente europeo. Così io spero.

E grazie tante, e poi ci rivedremo nel viaggio al rientro. E grazie: grazie di nuovo.

As usual on these flights, there are some seventy of us, representing a number of countries and a variety of media. We are told that on the ground in Armenia more than 600 accredited journalists are waiting to cover your visit. We realize that you will hold the usual press conference, with questions and answers, during the return flight, and we are looking forward to it. Right now everyone is waiting to shake your hand and greet you. But I believe that this morning, since we are all journalists, we are all have two questions in mind that we would like you to address. Then we will leave you in peace until the return flight.

The two questions are these. First, one that has to do with your own continent, namely, the good news we heard yesterday from Colombia about the progress made in the peace process. Then, the news we all woke up to this morning regarding Europe and the outcome of the referendum [on the Brexit]. If you can say a couple of words about these two things, we will let you to get on to the greetings…

Pope Francis:
Good morning, everyone! Thank you for being here and for your work. I beg pardon if I speak with my back to some of you. They say the angels don’t have one!

On the first question, I am happy about this news that I received yesterday. Over fifty years of war, guerrilla fighting and so much bloodshed… It was good news and I hope the countries that worked for this peace and guarantee that it holds will “reinforce” it so that it will never be possible to return, either from within or without, to a state of war. Congratulations to Colombia as it now takes this step.

As to the second question, I only learned the final outcome here on the plane, because when I left home I looked at “Il Messaggero” [a Roman newspaper] and the final results were not yet in. It was the will of the people, and this demands of us all a great responsibility for ensuring the good of the people of the United Kingdom, as well as the good and the coexistence of the entire European continent. That is my hope.

Santo Padre, sea bienvenido entre nosotros. Le presentamos nuestro saludo como comunidad “volante” de sus amigos y colaboradores periodistas. Como es habitual en estos viajes, somos un poco más de 70 periodistas; representamos, como siempre, a muchos países y a diferentes medios de comunicación. Nos dicen que en Armenia hay acreditados más de 600 periodistas, que nos esperan allá, para completar el trabajo sobre la marcha. Sabemos que durante el vuelo de regreso tendrá con nosotros la acostumbrada conferencia de preguntas y respuestas; también en esa ocasión procederemos como se hace siempre, pero ahora esperamos poder darle la mano y saludarlo. Pero creo que esta mañana todos nosotros, como periodistas, tenemos en mente dos preguntas sobre las que quisiéramos que usted nos dijera algo. Luego, lo dejamos en paz hasta el vuelo de regreso.

Las dos preguntas son: Una, la primera, que hace referencia a su continente, es decir a la buena noticia que tuvimos ayer de Colombia, sobre el avance del proceso de paz allí, en Colombia; y la segunda, con la que nos levantamos esta mañana, que se refiere en cambio al continente europeo y al resultado del referéndum sobre la Brexit. Si pudiera decirnos algo acerca de estas dos cuestiones, lo dejamos después saludar con calma.

Buenos días a todos y gracias, muchas gracias por su compañía y por su trabajo. Muchas gracias. Pido disculpas por tener que darle la espalda a algunos, aunque dicen que los ángeles no tienen espalda.

Sobre la primera pregunta, me siento muy feliz por la noticia que me llegó ayer. Son más de cincuenta años de guerra, de guerrilla, de tanta sangre derramada. Es una hermosa noticia y espero que los países que han trabajado para conseguir la paz y que garantizan que ese proceso avance, lo “blinden”, hasta el punto de que sea imposible volver otra vez, por ningún motivo interno o externo, a un estado de guerra. Van mis mejores deseos para Colombia, que está dando ahora este paso.

Con respecto a la segunda pregunta, supe del resultado final del referéndum aquí en el avión, pues cuando salí de casa sólo le di una mirada a Il Messaggero, que aún no mencionaba nada definitivo. Es la voluntad expresada por el pueblo, y nos pide a todos nosotros actuar con gran responsabilidad para garantizar el bien del pueblo del Reino Unido y también el bien y la convivencia de todo el continente europeo. Así lo espero.
