Oggi, 7 ottobre 2013, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza, nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano, le loro Maestà il Re del Lesotho, Letsie III, e la Regina ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso. Successivamente il Sovrano ha incontrato l’Em.mo Cardinale Tarcisio Bertone, Segretario di Stato, accompagnato da S.E. Mons. Dominique Mamberti, Segretario per i Rapporti con gli Stati.
Nel corso dei cordiali colloqui, ci si è soffermati sulle buone relazioni esistenti tra la Santa Sede ed il Regno del Lesotho, rilevando l’importanza della libertà religiosa, per favorire la positiva collaborazione tra lo Stato e la Chiesa. A tale riguardo, è stato espresso apprezzamento per l’impegno del Sovrano e del Governo nel dare priorità alla sanità e all’educazione, come pure per il significativo contributo ecclesiale nell’ambito della carità, della giustizia e della pace.
Infine, non sono mancati riferimenti a tematiche d’interesse etico-sociale, quale la famiglia, come pure alcuni accenni alla situazione politica ed economica della Regione.

Today, 7 October 2013, the Holy Father Francis received in Audience in the Vatican Apostolic Palace their Majesties the King of Lesotho, Letsie III, and Queen ‘Mastenate Mohato Seeiso. The Sovereign subsequently met with Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, accompanied by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.
During the cordial discussions, the Parties spoke of the good relations between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Lesotho, with special reference to the importance of religious freedom, to favour positive collaboration between the State and the Church. In this regard, appreciation was expressed for the commitment of the Sovereign and the Government to prioritising healthcare and education, and for the significant ecclesial contribution in the fields of charity, justice and peace.
Finally, mention was made of themes of an ethical and social nature, such as the family, as well as issues relating to the political and economic situation in the Region.
