Alle ore 12 di oggi il Santo Padre Francesco si è affacciato alla finestra dello studio nel Palazzo Apostolico Vaticano per recitare l’Angelus con i fedeli ed i pellegrini convenuti in Piazza San Pietro.
Queste le parole del Papa nell’introdurre la preghiera mariana:

Cari fratelli e sorelle, buongiorno!
Quest’oggi, cari fratelli e sorelle, vorrei farmi interprete del grido che sale da ogni parte della terra, da ogni popolo, dal cuore di ognuno, dall’unica grande famiglia che è l’umanità, con angoscia crescente: è il grido della pace! E’ il grido che dice con forza: vogliamo un mondo di pace, vogliamo essere uomini e donne di pace, vogliamo che in questa nostra società, dilaniata da divisioni e da conflitti, scoppi la pace; mai più la guerra! Mai più la guerra! La pace è un dono troppo prezioso, che deve essere promosso e tutelato.
Vivo con particolare sofferenza e preoccupazione le tante situazioni di conflitto che ci sono in questa nostra terra, ma, in questi giorni, il mio cuore è profondamente ferito da quello che sta accadendo in Siria e angosciato per i drammatici sviluppi che si prospettano.
Rivolgo un forte Appello per la pace, un Appello che nasce dall’intimo di me stesso! Quanta sofferenza, quanta devastazione, quanto dolore ha portato e porta l’uso delle armi in quel martoriato Paese, specialmente tra la popolazione civile e inerme! Pensiamo: quanti bambini non potranno vedere la luce del futuro! Con particolare fermezza condanno l’uso delle armi chimiche! Vi dico che ho ancora fisse nella mente e nel cuore le terribili immagini dei giorni scorsi! C’è un giudizio di Dio e anche un giudizio della storia sulle nostre azioni a cui non si può sfuggire! Non è mai l’uso della violenza che porta alla pace. Guerra chiama guerra, violenza chiama violenza!
Con tutta la mia forza, chiedo alle parti in conflitto di ascoltare la voce della propria coscienza, di non chiudersi nei propri interessi, ma di guardare all’altro come ad un fratello e di intraprendere con coraggio e con decisione la via dell’incontro e del negoziato, superando la cieca contrapposizione. Con altrettanta forza esorto anche la Comunità Internazionale a fare ogni sforzo per promuovere, senza ulteriore indugio, iniziative chiare per la pace in quella Nazione, basate sul dialogo e sul negoziato, per il bene dell’intera popolazione siriana.
Non sia risparmiato alcuno sforzo per garantire assistenza umanitaria a chi è colpito da questo terribile conflitto, in particolare agli sfollati nel Paese e ai numerosi profughi nei Paesi vicini. Agli operatori umanitari, impegnati ad alleviare le sofferenze della popolazione, sia assicurata la possibilità di prestare il necessario aiuto.
Che cosa possiamo fare noi per la pace nel mondo? Come diceva Papa Giovanni: a tutti spetta il compito di ricomporre i rapporti di convivenza nella giustizia e nell’amore (cfr Lett. enc. Pacem in terris [11 aprile 1963]: AAS 55 [1963], 301-302).
Una catena di impegno per la pace unisca tutti gli uomini e le donne di buona volontà! E’ un forte e pressante invito che rivolgo all’intera Chiesa Cattolica, ma che estendo a tutti i cristiani di altre Confessioni, agli uomini e donne di ogni Religione e anche a quei fratelli e sorelle che non credono: la pace è un bene che supera ogni barriera, perché è un bene di tutta l’umanità.
Ripeto a voce alta: non è la cultura dello scontro, la cultura del conflitto quella che costruisce la convivenza nei popoli e tra i popoli, ma questa: la cultura dell’incontro, la cultura del dialogo; questa è l’unica strada per la pace.
Il grido della pace si levi alto perché giunga al cuore di tutti e tutti depongano le armi e si lascino guidare dall’anelito di pace.
Per questo, fratelli e sorelle, ho deciso di indire per tutta la Chiesa, il 7 settembre prossimo, vigilia della ricorrenza della Natività di Maria, Regina della Pace, una giornata di digiuno e di preghiera per la pace in Siria, in Medio Oriente, e nel mondo intero, e anche invito ad unirsi a questa iniziativa, nel modo che riterranno più opportuno, i fratelli cristiani non cattolici, gli appartenenti alle altre Religioni e gli uomini di buona volontà.
Il 7 settembre in Piazza San Pietro - qui - dalle ore 19.00 alle ore 24.00, ci riuniremo in preghiera e in spirito di penitenza per invocare da Dio questo grande dono per l’amata Nazione siriana e per tutte le situazioni di conflitto e di violenza nel mondo. L’umanità ha bisogno di vedere gesti di pace e di sentire parole di speranza e di pace! Chiedo a tutte le Chiese particolari che, oltre a vivere questo giorno di digiuno, organizzino qualche atto liturgico secondo questa intenzione.
A Maria chiediamo di aiutarci a rispondere alla violenza, al conflitto e alla guerra, con la forza del dialogo, della riconciliazione e dell’amore. Lei è madre: che Lei ci aiuti a trovare la pace; tutti noi siamo i suoi figli! Aiutaci, Maria, a superare questo difficile momento e ad impegnarci a costruire ogni giorno e in ogni ambiente un’autentica cultura dell’incontro e della pace. Maria, Regina della pace, prega per noi!

Chers frères et sœurs, bonjour !
Chers frères et sœurs, je voudrais me faire aujourd’hui l’interprète du cri qui monte de toutes les parties de la terre, de tous les peuples, du cœur de chacun, de l’unique grande famille qu’est l’humanité, avec une angoisse croissante : c’est le cri de la paix ! Et le cri qui dit avec force : nous voulons un monde de paix, nous voulons être des hommes et des femmes de paix, nous voulons que dans notre société déchirée par les divisions et les conflits, explose la paix ; plus jamais la guerre ! Plus jamais la guerre ! La paix est un don éminemment précieux, qui doit être promu et préservé.
Je vis avec une particulière souffrance et préoccupation les nombreuses situations de conflit qu’il y a sur notre terre, mais, ces jours-ci, mon cœur est profondément blessé par ce qui se passe en Syrie et angoissé par les développements dramatiques qui s’annoncent.
J’adresse un appel fort pour la paix, un appel qui naît du plus profond de moi-même ! Que de souffrance, que de destruction, que de douleur a provoqué et provoque l’usage des armes dans ce Pays affligé, particulièrement parmi les populations civiles et sans défense ! Pensons : Que d’enfants ne pourront pas voir la lumière de l’avenir ! Avec une fermeté particulière je condamne l’usage des armes chimiques ! Je vous dis que j’ai encore fixées dans mon esprit et dans mon cœur les terribles images de ces derniers jours ! Sur nos actions il y a un jugement de Dieu et aussi un jugement de l’histoire, auxquels on ne peut pas échapper ! Ce n’est jamais l’usage de la violence qui conduit à la paix. La guerre appelle la guerre, la violence appelle la violence !
De toutes mes forces, je demande aux parties en conflit d’écouter la voix de leur conscience, de ne pas s’enfermer dans leurs propres intérêts, mais de regarder l’autre comme un frère et d’entreprendre courageusement et résolument le chemin de la rencontre et de la négociation, en dépassant les oppositions aveugles. Avec la même fermeté, j’exhorte aussi la Communauté internationale à fournir tout effort pour promouvoir, sans délai ultérieur, des initiatives claires fondées sur le dialogue et la négociation pour la paix dans cette Nation, pour le bien de tout le peuple syrien.
Qu’aucun effort ne soit épargné pour garantir une assistance humanitaire à ceux qui sont touchés par ce terrible conflit, particulièrement aux réfugiés dans ce Pays et aux nombreux réfugiés dans les pays voisins. Que soit garantie aux agents humanitaires engagés à alléger les souffrances de la population, la possibilité de prêter l’aide nécessaire.
Que pouvons-nous faire pour la paix dans le monde ? Comme le disait le Pape Jean XXIII : À tous incombe la tâche de rétablir les rapports de la vie en société sur les bases de la justice et de l’amour (cf. Pacem in terris [11 avril 1963] : AAS (1963], pp. 301-302].
Qu’une chaîne d’engagement pour la paix unisse tous les hommes et toutes les femmes de bonne volonté ! C’est une forte et pressante invitation que j’adresse à toute l’Église catholique, mais que j’étends à tous les chrétiens d’autres Confessions, aux hommes et aux femmes de chaque Religion, ainsi qu’à ces frères et sœurs qui ne croient pas : la paix est un bien qui dépasse toute barrière, parce qu’elle est un bien de toute l’humanité.
Je le répète à haute voix : ce n’est pas la culture de l’affrontement, la culture du conflit qui construit la vie collective dans un peuple et entre les peuples, mais celle-ci : la culture de la rencontre, la culture du dialogue : c’est l’unique voie pour la paix.
Que le cri de la paix s’élève pour arriver au cœur de tous et que tous déposent les armes et se laissent guider par le souffle de la paix.
Voilà pourquoi, frères et sœurs, j’ai décidé d’organiser pour toute l’Église, le 7 septembre prochain, veille de la célébration de la Nativité de Marie, Reine de la Paix, une journée de jeûne et de prière pour la paix en Syrie, au Moyen-Orient, et dans le monde entier, et j’invite aussi à s’unir à cette initiative, par la manière qu’ils retiendront la plus opportune, les frères chrétiens non catholiques, les adeptes des autres religions, ainsi que les hommes de bonne volonté.
Le 7 septembre, sur la Place Saint-Pierre – ici – de 19h00 à 24h00, nous nous réunirons en prière et dans un esprit de pénitence pour invoquer de Dieu ce grand don pour la bien-aimée Nation syrienne et pour toutes les situations de conflit et de violence dans le monde. L’humanité a besoin de voir des gestes de paix et d’entendre des paroles d’espérance et de paix ! Je demande à toutes les Églises particulières, outre le fait de vivre cette journée de jeûne, d’organiser des actions liturgiques à cette intention.
À Marie, nous demandons de nous aider à répondre à la violence, au conflit et à la guerre, par la force du dialogue, de la réconciliation et de l’amour. Elle est mère : qu’elle nous aide à retrouver la paix ; nous sommes tous ses enfants ! Aide-nous, Marie, à dépasser ce moment difficile et à nous engager à construire chaque jour et dans tous les domaines une culture authentique de la rencontre et de la paix. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Hello!
Today, dear brothers and sisters, I wish to make add my voice to the cry which rises up with increasing anguish from every part of the world, from every people, from the heart of each person, from the one great family which is humanity: it is the cry for peace! It is a cry which declares with force: we want a peaceful world, we want to be men and women of peace, and we want in our society, torn apart by divisions and conflict, that peace break out! War never again! Never again war! Peace is a precious gift, which must be promoted and protected.
There are so many conflicts in this world which cause me great suffering and worry, but in these days my heart is deeply wounded in particular by what is happening in Syria and anguished by the dramatic developments which are looming.
I appeal strongly for peace, an appeal which arises from the deep within me. How much suffering, how much devastation, how much pain has the use of arms carried in its wake in that martyred country, especially among civilians and the unarmed! I think of many children will not see the light of the future! With utmost firmness I condemn the use of chemical weapons: I tell you that those terrible images from recent days are burned into my mind and heart. There is a judgment of God and of history upon our actions which are inescapable! Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence.
With all my strength, I ask each party in this conflict to listen to the voice of their own conscience, not to close themselves in solely on their own interests, but rather to look at each other as brothers and decisively and courageously to follow the path of encounter and negotiation, and so overcome blind conflict. With similar vigour I exhort the international community to make every effort to promote clear proposals for peace in that countrywithout further delay, a peace based on dialogue and negotiation, for the good of the entire Syrian people.
May no effort be spared in guaranteeing humanitarian assistance to those wounded by this terrible conflict, in particular those forced to flee and the many refugees in nearby countries. May humanitarian workers, charged with the task of alleviating the sufferings of these people, be granted access so as to provide the necessary aid.
What can we do to make peace in the world? As Pope John said, it pertains to each individual to establish new relationships in human society under the mastery and guidance of justice and love (cf. John XXIII, Pacem in Terris, [11 April 1963]: AAS 55, [1963], 301-302).
All men and women of good will are bound by the task of pursuing peace. I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to those brothers and sisters who do not believe: peace is a good which overcomes every barrier, because it belongs all of humanity!
I repeat forcefully: it is neither a culture of confrontation nor a culture of conflict which builds harmony within and between peoples, but rather a culture of encounter and a culture of dialogue; this is the only way to peace.
May the plea for peace rise up and touch the heart of everyone so that they may lay down their weapons and be let themselves be led by the desire for peace.
To this end, brothers and sisters, I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world, and I also invite each person, including our fellow Christians, followers of other religions and all men of good will, to participate, in whatever way they can, in this initiative.
On 7 September, in Saint Peter’s Square, here, from 19:00 until 24:00, we will gather in prayer and in a spirit of penance, invoking God’s great gift of peace upon the beloved nation of Syria and upon each situation of conflict and violence around the world. Humanity needs to see these gestures of peace and to hear words of hope and peace! I ask all the local churches, in addition to fasting, that they gather to pray for this intention.
Let us ask Mary to help us to respond to violence, to conflict and to war, with the power of dialogue, reconciliation and love. Liebe Brüder und Schwestern, guten Tag!
Heute, liebe Brüder und Schwestern, möchte ich mir den Schrei zu eigen machen, der von jedem Winkel der Erde, von jedem Volk, aus dem Herzen eines jeden und von der einen großen Menschheitsfamilie mit immer größerer Ängstlichkeit aufsteigt. Es ist der Schrei nach Frieden. Es ist der Schrei, der laut ruft: Wir wollen eine friedliche Welt; wir wollen Männer und Frauen des Friedens sein; wir wollen, dass in dieser unserer Weltgemeinschaft, die durch Spaltungen und Konflikte zerrissen ist, der Friede aufbreche und nie wieder Krieg sei! Nie wieder Krieg! Der Friede ist ein zu kostbares Gut, als dass er nicht gefördert und geschützt werden müsste.
Mit leidvoller Sorge verfolge ich die vielen Konfliktsituationen auf dieser unserer Erde. Doch in diesen Tagen geht mir besonders schmerzlich ans Herz, was in Syrien passiert. Ich ängstige mich angesichts der dramatischen Entwicklungen, die bevorstehen.
Ich erhebe einen nachdrücklichen Friedensappell, einen Appell, der aus meiner tiefsten Seele kommt! Wie viel Leid, wie viel Zerstörung, wie viel Kummer hat der Gebrauch der Waffen in diesem gepeinigten Land und insbesondere unter der wehrlosen Zivilbevölkerung verursacht. Wie viel Qualen ruft er weiter hervor! Machen wir uns bewusst: Wie viele Kinder können nicht mehr das Licht der Zukunft erblicken! Mit besonderer Schärfe verurteile ich den Gebrauch chemischer Waffen: Ich sage euch, ich habe noch ständig jene schrecklichen Bilder der vergangenen Tage in meiner Erinnerung und in meinem Herzen! Es gibt ein Urteil Gottes und auch ein Urteil der Geschichte über unsere Taten, dem man nicht entrinnen kann! Niemals wird der Gebrauch der Gewalt zum Frieden führen. Krieg weckt Krieg, Gewalt weckt Gewalt!
Mit all meiner Kraft rufe ich die Konfliktparteien auf, der Stimme des eigenen Gewissens zu folgen, sich nicht in egoistische Interessen zu verschließen, sondern den Anderen als Bruder zu betrachten und mit Mut und Entschiedenheit den Weg der Kontakte und der Verhandlungen zu beschreiten, um die blinde Konfrontation zu überwinden. Ebenso nachdrücklich rufe ich auch die Internationale Gemeinschaft auf, jede Anstrengung zu unternehmen, um ohne weiteren Aufschub eindeutige Initiativen für den Frieden in jenem Land voranzubringen; Initiativen, die sich auf den Dialog und die Verhandlung zum Wohl der gesamten syrischen Bevölkerung stützen.
Keine Anstrengung werde unterlassen, um humanitäre Hilfe für die Opfer dieses furchtbaren Konfliktes zu gewährleisten, besonders für die Evakuierten im Land und die Flüchtlinge in den Nachbarstaaten. Es werde sichergestellt, dass die Helfer, die sich um die Linderung der Leiden der Bevölkerung bemühen, die nötige Unterstützung leisten können.
Was können wir für den Frieden in der Welt tun? Wie Papst Johannes XXIII. einmal sagte, ist allen die Aufgabe gestellt, in Gerechtigkeit und Liebe neue Wege des menschlichen Miteinanders zu finden (vgl. Pacem in terris [11. April 1963]: AAS 55[1963], 301-302).
Eine Kette des Einsatzes für den Frieden möge alle Männer und Frauen guten Willens verbinden! Diese ernste und eindringliche Einladung richte ich an die katholische Kirche in der ganzen Welt, und ich weite sie auch auf alle Christen anderer Konfessionen, auf die Männer und Frauen der verschiedenen Religionen und auf jene Brüder und Schwestern, die nicht glauben, aus: Der Frieden ist ein Gut, das alle Grenzen überwindet, weil es eben ein Gut der ganzen Menschheit ist.
Nochmals rufe ich mit lauter Stimme: Es ist nicht die Kultur der Auseinandersetzung, nicht die Kultur des Konfliktes, die das Zusammenleben in den Völkern und unter den Völkern aufbaut, sondern diese: die Kultur der Begegnung, die Kultur des Dialogs: Das ist der einzige Weg zum Frieden.
Der Schrei nach Frieden erhebe sich laut, auf dass er die Herzen aller erreiche; auf dass alle die Waffen niederlegen und sich leiten lassen von der Sehnsucht nach Frieden.
Deshalb, liebe Brüder und Schwestern, habe ich beschlossen, für die gesamte Kirche am kommenden 7. September, Vigil des Festes der Geburt Marias, der Königin des Friedens, einen Tag des Fastens und Betens für den Frieden in Syrien, im Nahen Osten und in der ganzen Welt anzusetzen. Ich lade ebenso die Brüder und Schwestern aller christlicher Konfessionen, die Mitglieder der anderen Religionen und die Menschen guten Willens dazu ein, sich dieser Initiative in einer Weise, die ihnen geeignet erscheint, anzuschließen.
Am 7. September werden wir uns hier auf dem Petersplatz von 19.00 Uhr bis 24.00 Uhr im Gebet und im Geist der Buße versammeln, um von Gott diese große Gabe für die geliebte syrische Nation und für alle Situationen von Konflikten und Gewalt in der Welt zu erbitten. Die Menschheit hat es nötig, Gesten des Friedens zu sehen und Worte der Hoffnung und des Friedens zu hören! Ich rufe alle Teilkirchen auf, dass sie nicht nur diesen Tag des Fastens begehen, sondern auch eine liturgische Feier in dieser Intention organisieren.
Bitten wir Maria, uns zu helfen, der Gewaltanwendung, dem Konflikt und dem Krieg mit der Kraft des Dialogs, der Versöhnung und der Liebe zu begegnen. Sie ist unsere Mutter. Sie möge uns helfen, den Frieden zu finden. Wir alle sind ihre Kinder. Hilf uns Maria, auch diesen schwierigen Moment zu überwinden und uns dafür einzusetzen, jeden Tag und in jeder Umgebung eine authentische Kultur der Begegnung und des Friedens aufzubauen.

Hoy, queridos hermanos y hermanas, quisiera hacerme intérprete del grito que, con creciente angustia, se levanta en todas las partes de la tierra, en todos los pueblos, en cada corazón, en la única gran familia que es la humanidad: ¡el grito de la paz! Es el grito que dice con fuerza: Queremos un mundo de paz, queremos ser hombres y mujeres de paz, queremos que en nuestra sociedad, desgarrada por divisiones y conflictos, estalle la paz; ¡nunca más la guerra! ¡Nunca más la guerra! La paz es un don demasiado precioso, que tiene que ser promovido y tutelado.
Vivo con particular sufrimiento y preocupación las numerosas situaciones de conflicto que hay en nuestra tierra, pero, en estos días, mi corazón está profundamente herido por lo que está sucediendo en Siria y angustiado por la dramática evolución que se está produciendo.
Hago un fuerte llamamiento a la paz, un llamamiento que nace de lo más profundo de mí mismo. ¡Cuánto sufrimiento, cuánta destrucción, cuánto dolor ha ocasionado y ocasiona el uso de las armas en este atormentado país, especialmente entre la población civil inerme! Pensemos: cuántos niños no podrán ver la luz del futuro. Condeno con especial firmeza el uso de las armas químicas. Les digo que todavía tengo fijas en la mente y en el corazón las terribles imágenes de los días pasados. Hay un juicio de Dios y también un juicio de la historia sobre nuestras acciones, del que no se puede escapar. El uso de la violencia nunca trae la paz. ¡La guerra llama a la guerra, la violencia llama a la violencia!
Con todas mis fuerzas, pido a las partes en conflicto que escuchen la voz de su conciencia, que no se cierren en sus propios intereses, sino que vean al otro como a un hermano y que emprendan con valentía y decisión el camino del encuentro y de la negociación, superando la ciega confrontación. Con la misma fuerza, exhorto también a la Comunidad Internacional a hacer todo esfuerzo posible para promover, sin más dilación, iniciativas claras a favor de la paz en aquella nación, basadas en el diálogo y la negociación, por el bien de toda la población de Siria.
Que no se ahorre ningún esfuerzo para garantizar asistencia humanitaria a las víctimas de este terrible conflicto, en particular a los desplazados en el país y a los numerosos refugiados en los países vecinos. Que los trabajadores humanitarios, dedicados a aliviar los sufrimientos de la población, tengan asegurada la posibilidad de prestar la ayuda necesaria.
¿Qué podemos hacer nosotros por la paz en el mundo? Como decía el Papa Juan XXIII, a todos corresponde la tarea de establecer un nuevo sistema de relaciones de convivencia basadas en la justicia y en el amor (cf. Pacem in terris [11 abril 1963]: AAS 55 [1963], 301-302).
¡Que una cadena de compromiso por la paz una a todos los hombres y mujeres de buena voluntad! Es una fuerte y urgente invitación que dirijo a toda la Iglesia Católica, pero que hago extensiva a todos los cristianos de otras confesiones, a los hombres y mujeres de las diversas religiones y también a aquellos hermanos y hermanas no creyentes: la paz es un bien que supera cualquier barrera, porque es un bien de toda la humanidad.
Lo repito alto y fuerte: no es la cultura de la confrontación, la cultura del conflicto, la que construye la convivencia en los pueblos y entre los pueblos, sino ésta: la cultura del encuentro, la cultura del diálogo; éste es el único camino para la paz.
Que el grito de la paz se alce con fuerza para que llegue al corazón de todos y todos depongan las armas y se dejen guiar por el deseo de paz.
Por esto, hermanos y hermanas, he decidido convocar en toda la Iglesia, el próximo 7 de septiembre, víspera de la Natividad de María, Reina de la Paz, una jornada de ayuno y de oración por la paz en Siria, en Oriente Medio y en el mundo entero, y también invito a unirse a esta iniciativa, de la manera que consideren más oportuno, a los hermanos cristianos no católicos, a los que pertenecen a otras religiones y a los hombres de buena voluntad.
El 7 de septiembre en la Plaza de San Pedro, aquí, desde las 19.00 a las 24.00 horas, nos reuniremos en oración y en espíritu de penitencia para implorar de Dios este gran don para la amada nación siria y para todas las situaciones de conflicto y de violencia en el mundo. La humanidad tiene necesidad de ver gestos de paz y de oír palabras de esperanza y de paz. Pido a todas las Iglesias particulares que, además de vivir esta jornada de ayuno, organicen algún acto litúrgico por esta intención.
Pidamos a María que nos ayude a responder a la violencia, al conflicto y a la guerra, con la fuerza del diálogo, de la reconciliación y del amor. Ella es Madre. Que Ella nos ayude a encontrar la paz. Todos nosotros somos sus hijos. Ayúdanos, María, a superar este difícil momento y a comprometernos, todos los días y en todos los ambientes, en la construcción de una auténtica cultura del encuentro y de la paz. María, Reina de la Paz, ruega por nosotros.

Hoje, queridos irmãos e irmãs, queria fazer-me intérprete do grito que se eleva, com crescente angústia, em todos os cantos da terra, em todos os povos, em cada coração, na única grande família que é a humanidade: o grito da paz! É um grito que diz com força: queremos um mundo de paz, queremos ser homens e mulheres de paz, queremos que nesta nossa sociedade, dilacerada por divisões e conflitos, possa irromper a paz! Nunca mais a guerra! Nunca mais a guerra! A paz é um dom demasiado precioso, que deve ser promovido e tutelado.
Vivo com particular sofrimento e com preocupação as várias situações de conflito que existem na nossa terra; mas, nestes dias, o meu coração ficou profundamente ferido por aquilo que está acontecendo na Síria, e fica angustiado pelos desenvolvimentos dramáticos que se preanunciam.
Dirijo um forte Apelo pela paz, um Apelo que nasce do íntimo de mim mesmo! Quanto sofrimento, quanta destruição, quanta dor causou e está causando o uso das armas naquele país atormentado, especialmente entre a população civil e indefesa! Pensemos em quantas crianças não poderão ver a luz do futuro! Condeno com uma firmeza particular o uso das armas químicas! Ainda tenho gravadas na mente e no coração as imagens terríveis dos dias passados! Existe um juízo de Deus e também um juízo da história sobre as nossas ações aos quais não se pode escapar! O uso da violência nunca conduz à paz. Guerra chama mais guerra, violência chama mais violência.
Com todas as minhas forças, peço às partes envolvidas no conflito que escutem a voz da sua consciência, que não se fechem nos próprios interesses, mas que olhem para o outro como um irmão e que assumam com coragem e decisão o caminho do encontro e da negociação, superando o confronto cego. Com a mesma força, exorto também a Comunidade Internacional a fazer todo o esforço para promover, sem mais demora, iniciativas claras a favor da paz naquela nação, baseadas no diálogo e na negociação, para o bem de toda a população síria.
Que não se poupe nenhum esforço para garantir a ajuda humanitária às vítimas deste terrível conflito, particularmente os deslocados no país e os numerosos refugiados nos países vizinhos. Que os agentes humanitários, dedicados a aliviar os sofrimentos da população, tenham garantida a possibilidade de prestar a ajuda necessária.
O que podemos fazer pela paz no mundo? Como dizia o Papa João XXIII, a todos corresponde a tarefa de estabelecer um novo sistema de relações de convivência baseados na justiça e no amor (cf. Pacem in terris, [11 de abril de 1963]: AAS 55 [1963], 301-302).
Possa uma corrente de compromisso pela paz unir todos os homens e mulheres de boa vontade! Trata-se de um forte e premente convite que dirijo a toda a Igreja Católica, mas que estendo a todos os cristãos de outras confissões, aos homens e mulheres de todas as religiões e também àqueles irmãos e irmãs que não creem: a paz é um bem que supera qualquer barreira, porque é um bem de toda a humanidade.
Repito em alta voz: não é a cultura do confronto, a cultura do conflito, aquela que constrói a convivência nos povos e entre os povos, mas sim esta: a cultura do encontro, a cultura do diálogo: este é o único caminho para a paz.
Que o grito da paz se erga alto para que chegue até o coração de cada um, e que todos abandonem as armas e se deixem guiar pelo desejo de paz.

W dniu dzisiejszym, drodzy bracia i siostry, chciałbym wyrazić krzyk, wznoszący się z rosnącym niepokojem z każdego zakątka ziemi, z każdego narodu, z serca każdego człowieka, z jednej wielkiej rodziny, jaką jest ludzkość: jest to wołanie o pokój! To jest wołanie z mocą: chcemy świata pokojowego, chcemy być ludźmi pokoju, chcemy, aby w tym naszym społeczeństwie, dręczonym podziałami i konfliktami, zapanował pokój; nigdy więcej wojny! Nigdy więcej wojny! Pokój jest zbyt cennym darem – trzeba go szerzyć i chronić.
Szczególnym cierpieniem i niepokojem przejmują mnie jakże liczne sytuacje konfliktów, występujących na naszej ziemi, a w tych dniach moje serce jest do głębi zranione przez to, co dzieje się w Syrii, i zatrwożone z powodu dramatycznego rozwoju wydarzeń, jaki się zapowiada.
Zwracam się ze zdecydowanym apelem o pokój, apelem, który płynie z głębi mojego serca! Jakże wiele cierpienia, jakże wiele zniszczeń, jakże wiele bólu spowodowało i powoduje używanie broni w tym umęczonym kraju, zwłaszcza wśród bezbronnej ludności cywilnej! Pomyślmy: ile wiele dzieci nie będzie mogło zobaczyć światła przyszłości! Ze szczególną stanowczością potępiam użycie broni chemicznej! Powiem wam, że w myślach i w sercu mam jeszcze wyryte obrazy z minionych dni! Jest sąd Boży, a także osąd historii co do naszych czynów, przed którym nie można uciec! Używanie przemocy nigdy nie przynosi pokoju. Wojna przyzywa wojnę, przemoc przyzywa przemoc!
Z całych sił proszę strony zaangażowane w konflikt, aby posłuchały głosu własnego sumienia, aby nie zamykały się we własnych interesach, ale by patrzyły na drugiego człowieka jak na brata i odważnie oraz zdecydowanie obrały drogę spotkania i negocjacji, przezwyciężając ślepy konflikt. Działaczom humanitarnym, starającym się ulżyć w cierpieniach ludności, niech będzie zapewniona możliwość niesienia niezbędnej pomocy.
Co my możemy zrobić na rzecz pokoju na świecie? Jak mówił papież Jan, na wszystkich spoczywa obowiązek układania relacji współżycia w sprawiedliwości i w miłości (por. Enc. Pacem in terris, [11 kwietnia 1963]: AAS 55 [1963], 301-302).
Niech łańcuch działań na rzecz pokoju połączy wszystkich ludzi dobrej woli! Jest to mocne i naglące wezwanie, które kieruję do całego Kościoła katolickiego, a które rozszerzam na wszystkich chrześcijan innych wyznań, mężczyzn i kobiety wszystkich religii, a także do tych braci i sióstr, którzy nie wierzą: pokój jest dobrem przekraczającym wszelkie bariery, ponieważ jest dobrem całej ludzkości.
Powtarzam głośno: to nie kultura starcia, nie kultura konfliktu buduje współżycie w narodach i między narodami, ale ta: kultura spotkania, kultura dialogu; ta jest jedyną drogą do pokoju.
Niech wołanie o pokój wzniesie się głośno, aby dotarło do serc wszystkich ludzi i aby wszyscy złożyli broń i pozwolili, by kierowało nimi pragnienie pokoju.

الإخوة والأخوات الأعزاء، صباح الخير!
أودُّ في هذا اليوم، أيها الإخوة والأخوات الأعزاء، أن أجعل من نفسي لسان حال الصرخة التي ترتفع من جميع اقطار الأرض، ومن كل شعوب، ومن قلب كل شخص، ومن ذات العائلة الكبرى والتي هي البشرية، بقلق متزايد: إنها صرخة السلام! إنها صرخة تقول بقوة: نريد عالما من السلام، نريد أن نكون رجال ونساء سلام، نريد أن يكتشف مجتمعنا هذا، الذي شوهته الانقسامات والصراعات، السلام؛ لا للحرب أبدا! لا للحرب أبدا! إن السلام هو عطية ثمينة، يجب تعزيزها وحمايتها.
أعيش بألم بالغ وبقلق أوضاع الصراع الكثيرة الموجودة في أرضنا هذه، ولكنَّ قلبي، في هذه الأيام، مجروح بعميق بسبب ما يحدث في سوريا، ومهموم من التطورات المأسوية الماثلة أمامنا.
اتوجه بنداء قوي من أجل السلام، نداء يُولَد من عمق اعماق نفسي! فكم من المعاناة، وكم من الخراب، وكم من الألم انتجته وينتجه استخدام الأسلحة في ذاك البلد المنكوب، لاسيما بين المدنيين العزل! لنفكر: كم من الأطفال قد حُرموا من التطلع نحو المستقبل! إني وبحزم شديد أدين استخدام الاسلحة الكيماوية! وأقول لكم إن صور الإيام المنصرمة البشعة مازالت منطبعة في الذهن وفي القلب! هناك دينونة الله وهناك ايضا دينونة التاريخ وفق أعمالنا، دينونة لا يمكن الفرار منها! فاللجوء للعنف لن يقود مطلقا للسلام. فالحربُ تجلب الحربَ، والعنفُ يجلب العنفَ!
إني أطلب، وبكل قوتي، من أطراف الصراع أن يسمعوا صوت ضميرهم، وألا ينغلقوا داخل مصالحهم الخاصة، وأن ينظروا للآخر كأخ، وأن يبادروا بشجاعة وبحزم في اتخاذ مسار اللقاء والتفاوض، متجاوزين المُعَاندة العمياء. أناشد أيضا، وبذات القوة، الجماعة الدولية للقيام اليوم بكل جهد، وبدون مزيد من التأخر، لتحريك مبادرات واضحة للسلام في ذاك الوطن، مبادرات تقوم على الحوار وعلى التفاوض، من أجل خير الشعب السوري أجمع.
لا يجب ادخار أي جَهد في تقديم الدعم الإنساني للمصابين من هذا الصراع المروع، وخاصة للنازحين من البلد وللمهجرين الكُثر في البلدان المجاورة. وبالنسبة لعمال الإغاثة، الملتزمين بتخفيف معاناة السكان، ينبغي أن تتوفر لهم إمكانية تقديم العون اللازم.
ما الذي يجب علينا القيام به من أجل السلام في العالم؟ كما كان يقول البابا يوحنا الثالث والعشرون: على الجميع تقع مهمة إعادة بناء علاقات التعايش المشترك في العدالة والمحبة (را. الرسالة العامة: السلام في الأرض Pacem in terris، أعمال الكرسي الرسولي 55 [1963]، 301-302).
فلتوحد جميع الرجال والنساء من ذوي الإرادة الصالحة سلسلة من الالتزام بالسلام! واتوجه بدعوة قوية ومُلِّحة إلى الكنيسة الكاثوليكية جمعاء، لكنها دعوة ابسطها أيضا نحو كل المسيحيين من طوائف أخرى، ولجميع الرجال والنساء من كل دين، وكذلك للإخوة والأخوات غير المؤمنين: إن السلام هو خير يتخطى أي حاجز، لأنه خير للبشرية باسرها.
إني أكرر وبصوت عال: ليست ثقافة الصراع، ثقافة التصادم، هي التي ستشيِّد التعايش المشترك في الشعوب وبين الأمم، وإنما تلك: أي ثقافة اللقاء، ثقافة الحوار؛ إنها هي الطريق الوحيد للسلام.
لترتفع صرخة السلام عالية حتى تصل إلى قلب الجميع، حتى يضع الجميع الأسلحة جانبا ويسمحوا للتوق للسلام بأن يقودهم.
من أجل هذا، ايها الإخوة والأخوات، أزمعت على أن أُقر للكنيسة جمعاء، يوم 7 سبتمبر / ايلول القادم، عشية ذكرى ميلاد مريم، سلطانة السلام، كيوم مكرس للصوم والصلاة من أجل السلام في سوريا، وفي الشرق الأوسط، وفي العالم أجمع، وأدعو أيضا للانضمام إلى هذه المبادرة، وبالطريقة التي يرونها مناسبة، جميع الأخوة المسيحيين غير الكاثوليك، والتابعين للديانات الأخرى، وجميع الرجل من ذوي الإرادة الصالحة.
يوم 7 سبتمبر / ايلول - هنا - في ساحة القديس بطرس، من الساعة 19.00 إلى الساعة 24.00، سنجتمع في صلاة وبروح توبة سائلين الله تلك العطية الكبرى من أجل الوطن السوري الحبيب، ومن أجل جميع أوضاع الصراع والعنف في العالم. إن البشرية في حاجة لأن ترى إشارات سلام ولأن تسمع كلمات رجاء وسلام! وأطلب من جميع الكنائس الخاصة، والتي بالإضافة لعيشها يوم الصوم هذا، أن تنظم بعض الأعمال الليتورجيا من أجل هذه النيِّة.
لنطلب من مريم العذراء أن تساعدنا في ان نرد على العنف، وعلى الصراع وعلى الحرب، بقوة الحوار، والمصالحة والمحبة. هي أم: أن تساعدنا على إيجاد السلام؛ فنحن جميعا ابنائها! ساعدينا، يا مريم، كي نتجاوز هذا الوقت العصيب وأن نلتزم بالعمل بجد، كل يوم وفي كل بيئة، في تشييد ثقافة أصيلة للقاء وللسلام.

● DOPO L’ANGELUS
Cari fratelli e sorelle,
ieri a Bucarest è stato proclamato beato Vladimir Ghika, sacerdote diocesano, nato a Istanbul e morto martire a Bucarest nel 1954. Domani, invece, a Messina, avrà luogo la beatificazione di Antonio Franco, Prelato Ordinario di Santa Lucia del Mela, vissuto tra i secoli XVI e XVII. Rendiamo grazie a Dio per questi esemplari testimoni del Vangelo!
Oggi, in Italia, ricorre la Giornata per la custodia del creato, promossa dalla Conferenza Episcopale. E’ molto bello il tema di quest’anno: "La famiglia educa alla custodia del creato".
Attraverso Maria, il Signore ci fa sentire la sua tenerezza! Ci uniamo oggi a tutti i fedeli di Siracusa nella ricorrenza del 60° anniversario delle lacrime della Madonna.
Saluto con affetto tutti i romani e i pellegrini presenti, in particolare i giovani di tanti Paesi del mondo: impegnatevi, impegnatevi a conoscervi, a confrontarvi, a fare progetti insieme! Questo costruisce un futuro di pace!
