The Islamic-Catholic Liaison Committee held its 19^th Meeting in Rome, on June 18 and 19, 2013, corresponding to Shaban 9 and 10, 1434, presided over for the Catholic side by His Eminence Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, and presided over for the Muslim side by H.E. Prof. Dr Hamid bin Ahmad Al-Rifaie, President of the International Islamic Forum for Dialogue.

The theme of the meeting was: Believers confronting materialism and secularism in society.

After listening to the papers presented by Catholic and Muslim scholars and exchanging views about the above mentioned theme, the participants agreed upon the following:

1. Christianity and Islam affirm the inseparability and complementarity between the material and the spiritual domains. Our responsibility as believers is to reconcile these dimensions of life.

2. Many people today suffer from the loss of spiritual and religious roots; this phenomenon weakens both the inner and moral dimensions of individuals and societies.

3. The world today is facing many kinds of crises. We recognize our common responsibility as believers in God to do all that is possible to protect vulnerable people at this time.

4. The participants were honored and pleased to be received in audience by His Holiness Pope Francis, who encouraged them to continue their efforts on the path of respectful and fruitful dialogue between believers for the peace and prosperity of our world.

5. We strongly condemn in particular what is happening in Syria: killing of many innocent persons, aggression against the sacred character of human life and against the dignity of persons; therefore we urge the Regional and International Organisations to do what is possible to stop the bloodshed, according to International Law.

6. The Committee will hold its next meeting in Tatwan (Marocco); it will be preceded by a preparatory event. The Muslim side will undertake to organize it.

 بيان صحفي  

 بعون الله  عقدت الدورة التاسعة عشرة للجنة الاتصال الإسلامي – الكاثوليكي في روما بتاريخ  ٩ - ١٠ شعبان ١٤٣٤ هـ ، الموافق ١٨ - ١٩ حزيران ٢٠١٣ م . 

وترأس الوفد المسلم معالي البروفيسور الدكتور حامد بن أحمد الرفاعي، رئيس المنتدى الإسلامي العالمي للحوار، وترأس الوفد الكاثوليكي نيافة الكاردينال جان - لويس توران، رئيس المجلس البابوي لحوار الأديان .

وتدارس الطرفان موضوعين :

       ١ - الدين  والعلمانية 

      ٢ - الدين والمادية 

وبعد سماع البحوث من المسلمين والكاثوليك وتبادل الآراء، وافق المشاركون على ما يلي :

1.    الإسلام والمسيحية يؤكدان التكامل والتلازم بين الجانبين المادي والروحي. ومسؤوليتنا المشتركة بصفتنا مؤمنين هي المصالحة بين هذين البعدين في ميادين الحياة.

2.    يعاني معظم الناس اليوم من فقدان جذور القيم الروحية والدينية. وهذا مما يضعف الجانب الأخلاقي والوجداني على المستويين الفردي والمجتمعي.

3.    يواجه العالم اليوم أنواعا متعددة من الأزمات. ونحن نتحمل مسؤوليتنا المشتركة بصفتنا مؤمنين بالله لنعمل كل ما نستطيع لحماية المستضعفين في هذا العصر.

4.    تشرف المشاركون وسعدوا باستقبال قداسة البابا فرنسيس لهم الذي شجعهم على مواصلة جهودهم في سبيل حوار ناجع ومفيد بين المؤمنين من أجل السلام والإزدهار في العالم.  

5.    نستنكر بشدة وعلى وجه الخصوص ما يجري في سورية من قتل للأبرياء واعتداء على القيم الإنسانية المقدسة وعلى كرامة الإنسان، لذلك نحن نلح مطالبين المنظمات الإقليمية والدولية لعمل ما يمكن لوقف المجزرة في سورية التي تتناقض مع القوانين والأعراف الدولية.

6.    ستعقد اللجنة دورتها القادمة في تطوان في المملكة المغربية ويقوم بتنظيمها الجانب المسلم
