Il Santo Padre Benedetto XVI ha ricevuto oggi in udienza il Presidente della Repubblica del Gabon, Sua Eccellenza il Sig. Ali Bongo Ondimba, il quale ha poi incontrato l’Em.mo Cardinale Tarcisio Bertone, Segretario di Stato, accompagnato da Sua Eccellenza Mons. Dominique Mamberti, Segretario per i Rapporti con gli Stati.
Durante i cordiali colloqui, si è ricordato il Presidente El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, recentemente scomparso. Inoltre, si è espresso compiacimento per le buone relazioni esistenti tra la Santa Sede e il Gabon, in virtù dell’Accordo-Quadro stipulato nel 1997 e dei suoi sviluppi, e ci si è soffermati sul contributo dei cattolici allo sviluppo del Paese e al progresso integrale del popolo gabonese, in particolare nel campo educativo.

Les parties, qui ont évoqué le Président El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, récemment disparu, se sont félicitées des bonnes relations entre le Gabon et le Saint-Siège, consolidées par l'Accord cadre de 1997 et ses développements. Ces entretiens cordiaux ont également permis d'évaluer la contribution des catholiques au progrès du pays et du peuple gabonais, notamment en matière d'éducation.

This morning the Holy Father Benedict XVI received in audience Ali Bongo Ondimba, president of the Republic of Gabon. The president subsequently went on to meet with Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B. who was accompanied by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States.
During the cordial discussions, mention was made of the recently-deceased President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba. Pleasure was then expressed at the good relations that exist between the Holy See and Gabon, by virtue of the Framework-Agreement stipulated in 1997 and its developments. Attention also dwelt on the contribution Catholics make to the development of the country, and to the integral progress of the Gabonese people, particularly in the field of education.
