Su invito della Conferenza Episcopale Australiana, il Cardinale Paul Josef Cordes, Presidente del Pontificio Consiglio "Cor Unum", dicastero della Santa Sede responsabile per l’orientamento delle agenzie cattoliche di carità, sarà in Australia dal 22 al 29 novembre 2009 per incontrare i Vescovi riuniti a Sydney in occasione dell’Assemblea plenaria.
Lo scopo della visita è di rafforzare la testimonianza della Chiesa Cattolica nell’ambito della carità. Il Santo Padre Benedetto XVI ha fatto della missione della diakonia ecclesiale un punto centrale del suo magistero; tale servizio, unito all’annuncio della Parola di Dio e alla celebrazione dei sacramenti, manifesta la natura più intima della Chiesa. Il Cardinale Cordes rifletterà insieme ai Pastori sugli insegnamenti dell’Enciclica Deus caritas est, alla luce delle varie esperienze delle chiese locali.
Nel corso del suo viaggio, il Cardinale Cordes affronterà il tema delle differenti dimensioni della carità anche in incontri con sacerdoti, seminaristi, operatori delle associazioni caritative e alcuni rappresentanti di associazioni laicali. Terrà inoltre una conferenza sull’Enciclica Caritas in veritate presso l’Università Cattolica Australiana.

At the invitation of the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference, Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, President of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, the Dicastery of the Holy See responsible for orienting tbe Church's charitable agencies, will be in Australia from 22-29 November 2009 for a meeting with the Bishops, gathered at their Plenary Assembly in Sydney.
The aim of the visit is to strengthen the Catholic Church's witness in the field of charity. Pope Benedict XVI has made the mission of diakonia a focal point of his teaching, which together with tbe proclamation of the word of God and the celebration of the sacraments, expresses the Church' s deepest nature. Cardinal Cordes will reflect together with the Pastors on the teaching of Deus Caritas Est in the light of the local churches' experiences.
In the course of his trip, Cardinal Cordes will discuss the different facets of charity with priests, seminarians, charity workers and various lay groups. He will also deliver a lecture at the Australian Catholic University on the Encyclical Caritas in Veritate.
