Questa mattina, lasciata la Nunziatura Apostolica, il Santo Padre si reca all’aeroporto di Bratislava, dove, alle ore 9, a bordo di un B 737/500 della SkyEurope, si trasferisce all’aeroporto di Košice. Qui è accolto dall’Arcivescovo di Košice, S.E. Mons. Alojz Tkáč, dal Vescovo di Rožňava, S.E. Mons. Eduard Kojnok, dal Vescovo Coadiutore, S.E. Mons. Vladimír Filo e da altre Autorità politiche e civili. Quindi il Papa si reca al Campo di Podrákoš a Rožňava dove alle 11.30 presiede la Celebrazione Eucaristica.

Nel corso della Santa Messa, introdotto dall’indirizzo di omaggio del Vescovo di Rožňava, S.E. Mons. Eduard Kojnok, e dopo la proclamazione del Vangelo, Giovanni Paolo II pronuncia l’omelia che riportiamo di seguito:

1. „Prosím vás, bratia, aby ste žili dôstojne podľa povolania, ktorého sa vám dostalo" (porov. Ef 4,1). Naliehavá výzva apoštola Pavla, adresovaná kresťanskej obci v Efeze, stáva sa mimoriadne významnou aj pre nás tu zhromaždených. Každému veriacemu, pri rôznorodosti povolaní a chariziem, je zverená úloha byť učeníkom a apoštolom. Učeníkom, ktorý skromne a pozorne počúva spasiteľné slovo; apoštolom, ktorý vydáva horlivé svedectvo svojím životom podľa evanjelia.

Jedno slovenské príslovie hovorí: „slová poučujú, skutky priťahujú". Áno, bratia a sestry. Aj vy môžete veľkou mierou prispieť k evanjelizácii súčasného sveta a k vytvoreniu spravodlivejšej a bratskejšej spoločnosti práve svojím kresťanským spôsobom života. Preto sa na vás obraciam slovami apoštola Pavla: „Len sa pozrite na svoje povolanie, bratia!" (1 Kor 1,26).

2. Srdečne pozdravujem v Pánovi všetkých vás, synov a dcéry tejto miestnej cirkvi, na čele s vaším otcom biskupom Eduardom Kojnokom, ktorému ďakujem za láskavé slová privítania, a jeho koadjútorom, otcom biskupom Vladimírom Filom. S bratským pozdravom sa obraciam na prítomných biskupov a srdečne pozdravujem aj prítomných pútnikov z iných diecéz. Pozdravujem občianskych a vojenských predstaviteľov, osobitne pána prezidenta Slovenskej republiky. Všetkým ďakujem za milé prijatie a za obetavosť pri príprave mojej návštevy.

Most a magyar nyelvű közösséghez fordulok, amely oly nagy számban él e területeken és integráns részét képezi ennek az egyházmegyének. Kedves Testvéreim, legyetek büszkék hagyományaitokra és hűségesek atyáitok tanításához. Őrizzétek meg szilárdan a hitet és legyen élő reményetek. Az erőt a Krisztushoz és Egyházához való ragaszkodásból merítsétek. Jelenlétetek gazdagodás a szlovák föld számára. Tudom, hogy ennek a helyi Egyháznak a főpásztorai jóindulatúan fogadják lelki igényeitek kifejezéseit, egyben állhatatosan őrzik az egyházi egységet, amely az egész szlovák társadalom emberi és lelki növekedésének záloga.

3. Drahí bratia a sestry, prechádzajúc cestou sem cez Bratislavu a cez Košice, mal som možnosť obdivovať rozsiahle obrobené polia, svedectvo vašej práce a vašich námah. Milo som si spomenul na všetkých poľnohospodárskych pracovníkov, ktorí svojou nenahraditeľnou prácou zabezpečujú život tejto krajiny. Zo srdca ich pozdravujem. V evanjeliovom podobenstve, ktoré sme práve počuli, Pán Ježiš sa prirovnáva k rozsievačovi, ktorý s dôverou seje semeno svojho slova do pôdy ľudských sŕdc.

Úroda nezávisí len od semena, ale aj od rôznorodosti pôdy, čiže od každého z nás. Všimnime si, ako vysvetľuje podobenstvo sám Pán Ježiš. Zrno, ktoré pozobali vtáky, predstavuje príchod zla, ktoré oberá ľudské srdce o zmysel pre Božie veci (porov. Mk 8,33), a o pochopenie kríža.

Zrno bez koreňa predstavuje situáciu, keď Slovo je prijímané len povrchne, bez vnútorného prijatia Krista a bez osobnej lásky k Pánovi (porov. Kol 2,7), ktoré jedine umožňujú jeho zachovanie.

Zrno udusené v tŕní predstavuje svetské starosti, túžbu po moci, klam bohatstva a pýchu.

4. Slovo neprináša úrodu automaticky. Hoci je Božské, a teda všemohúce, prispôsobuje sa podmienkam pôdy. Prijíma výsledok, ktorý dáva samotná pôda, a ktorý môže byť i negatívny. Ide o tajomstvo odovzdávania sa, ktoré vrcholí v úplnom odovzdaní sa Boha do rúk človeka. Veď semeno rozsiate do pôdy je vlastne Pán Ježiš (porov. Jn 12,24).

Podobenstvo o rozsievačovi a vysvetlenie, ktoré dal sám Pán Ježiš svojim učeníkom, nás nutne vedú k zamysleniu sa. Drahí bratia a sestry, my sme tou pôdou, do ktorej Pán neúnavne seje semeno svojho Slova a svojej lásky. V akom duchu ho prijímame? Akú úrodu prinášame?

5. Svätý Ján Chryzostom, ktorého spomienku dnes slávime, píše: „Mám so sebou jeho Slovo, ono je mojou palicou, mojou istotou ... Ono je mojou pevnosťou a mojou ochranou" (porov. Homílie pred exilom, č. 1-3: PG 52, 428).

Pápež vám tu dnes všetkým odovzdáva tento poklad Slova, stavajúc sa sám do úlohy rozsievača, ktorý s dôverou vkladá do vášho srdca „dobrú zvesť" o Nebeskom kráľovstve. Buďte tou dobrou a úrodnou pôdou, ktorá hojnosťou úrody zadosťučiní očakávaniam Cirkvi a sveta.

„Bez Božieho požehnania, márne naše namáhania", ako hovorí ďalšie vaše múdre príslovie. Vyprosujem preto vám, i vašej snahe o príkladný kresťanský život, hojné Božie požehnanie. Amen!

1. "I beg you brothers to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called" (Eph 4:1). The pressing invitation of the Apostle Paul to the Christian community of Ephesus takes on special meaning for us congregated here. To every believer is entrusted, in the diversity of vocations and charisms, the task of being both disciple and apostle: disciple, by humbly listening to the word that saves; apostle by giving passionate witness of a life formed by the Gospel.

A Slovak proverb says: "Words admonish, examples move". Yes, dear Brothers and Sisters, you too, with the "style" of your Christian life, can make a great contribution to the evangelisation of today’s world and to the construction of a more just and more fraternal society. And so I say with the Apostle Paul: "Consider your calling" (1 Cor 1:26).

2. With affection, in the name of the Lord, I greet all of you, sons and daughters of this local Church, beginning with your Bishop, the Most Reverend Eduard Kojnok, whom I thank for the cordial words of welcome extended to me, together with his Coadjutor, Bishop Vladimír Filo. I am pleased to see the Bishops present and the pilgrims who have come from other Dioceses. I greet the civil and military authorities, especially the President of the Slovak Republic. I thank all of you for the welcome offered to me and for the many efforts dedicated to the preparation of my visit.

I wish to address a special word to the Hungarian-speaking community so numerous in this region and an integrated part of this Diocese. Proud of your traditions, dear Brothers and Sisters, and faithful to the teachings of your Ancestors, you keep your faith firm and your hope alive and you draw strength from your attachment to Christ and to his Church. Your presence constantly enriches Slovakia, and I know that the Pastors of this local Church are attentive to meet your spiritual aspirations, while always safeguarding ecclesial unity, a factor of human and spiritual growth for the entire Slovak society.

3. Dear Brothers and Sisters, my journey from Bratislava and from Košice, gave me the opportunity to admire vast cultivated areas, which are a witness to your work and effort. My thoughts go with great sympathy to all who are dedicated to agriculture and who by their dedication offer an indispensable contribution to the life of the Nation. I greet you with affection. In the Gospel parable which we have just heard proclaimed, Jesus compares himself to the sower, who sows the seed of his word confidently in the soil of human hearts.

The fruit does not depend on the seed alone, but also on the diverse conditions of the soil, that is to say, on each one of us. Let us listen to the explanation of the parable that Jesus himself has given. The seed eaten up by the birds calls to mind the intervention of the Evil One who brings to the heart misunderstanding of God’s way (cf. Mk 8:33), which is always the way of the Cross.

The seed without roots describes that situation in which the Word is only externally received, without that deep allegiance to Christ and personal love for him (cf. Col 2:7), which alone would allow it to be retained.

The choked seed symbolises the worries of the present life, the attraction of power, affluence, pride.

4. The word does not bear fruit automatically, even though it is divine – and therefore all-powerful – ; it adapts to the conditions of the soil, or better, it accepts the response that the soil gives, which can also be negative. This is a Mystery of God’s condescension, who goes so far even as to place himself completely in human hands! Because in reality, the seed fallen on the different soils is Jesus himself (cf. Jn 12,24).

Reading this parable and the explanation given by Jesus to his disciples arouses in us a necessary reflection. We, Dear Brothers and Sisters, are the soil in which the Lord tirelessly plants the seed of his word and his love. With what attitude do we receive it? How much fruit do we allow it to bring forth?

5. Saint John Chrysostom, whose memorial we celebrate in today’s liturgy, writes: "I have with me his word; this is my staff, my protection… This is my strength and my defence" (cf. Homilies before Exile, 1-3: PG 52, 428).

The Pope entrusts to all of you today the treasure of this word; just like a confident sower who plants in the secret of each heart the "good news" of the Kingdom. Be the good and fruitful soil which, with the abundance of its produce, comforts the expectations of the Church and of the world.

"Human efforts are useless when not blessed by God", says wisely another one of your proverbs. I invoke therefore upon you and upon your commitment to the Christian way of life the abundant blessings of the Most High. Amen!

1. "Vi esorto, fratelli, a comportarvi in maniera degna della vocazione che avete ricevuto" (cfr Ef 4,1). L'invito pressante dell'apostolo Paolo alla comunità cristiana di Efeso riveste un particolare significato per tutti noi qui riuniti. Ad ogni fedele, nella diversità delle vocazioni e dei carismi, è affidato il compito di essere discepolo ed apostolo: discepolo, in ascolto umile e docile della parola che salva; apostolo, con la testimonianza appassionata di una vita informata dal Vangelo.

Dice un proverbio slovacco: "Le parole ammoniscono, gli esempi trascinano". Sì, cari Fratelli e Sorelle, grande è il contributo che anche voi potete portare, con lo "stile" della vostra vita cristiana, all'evangelizzazione del mondo contemporaneo e alla costruzione di una società più giusta e fraterna. Perciò vi dico con l'apostolo Paolo: "Considerate la vostra chiamata!" (1 Cor 1, 26).

2. Saluto con affetto nel nome del Signore tutti voi, figli e figlie di questa Chiesa locale, ad iniziare dal vostro Vescovo, Mons. Eduard Kojnok, che ringrazio per le cordiali parole rivoltemi, e dal suo Coadiutore, Mons. Vladimír Filo. Un pensiero benedicente rivolgo ai Vescovi presenti ed ai pellegrini giunti dalle altre diocesi. Saluto le Autorità civili e militari, in particolare il Signor Presidente della Repubblica Slovacca. Tutti ringrazio per l'accoglienza e l'impegno profuso per la preparazione della mia visita.

Un particolare pensiero desidero rivolgere alla comunità di lingua ungherese, così numerosa in questa regione e parte integrante di questa diocesi. 3. Cari Fratelli e Sorelle, venendo da Bratislava e da Košice, ho potuto ammirare le vaste distese coltivate, testimoni del vostro lavoro e della vostra fatica. Ho pensato con grata simpatia a quanti sono impegnati nell’agricoltura e recano con la loro dedizione un contributo indispensabile alla vita della Nazione. Li saluto con affetto. Nella parabola evangelica che abbiamo appena sentito proclamare, Gesù stesso si è paragonato al seminatore, che sparge con fiducia il seme della sua parola nel terreno dei cuori umani.

Il frutto non dipende unicamente dal seme, ma anche dalle diverse situazioni del terreno, e cioè da ognuno di noi. Ascoltiamo la spiegazione che Gesù stesso ha dato della parabola. Il seme divorato dagli uccelli richiama l'intervento del maligno, che porta nel cuore l'incomprensione della via di Dio (cfr Mc 8,33), che è sempre la via della Croce.

Il seme senza radici descrive la situazione nella quale la Parola viene accettata solo esteriormente, senza quella profondità di adesione a Cristo e quell'amore personale per Lui (cfr Col 2,7) che soltanto permettono di conservarla.

Il seme soffocato rimanda alle preoccupazioni della vita presente, all'attrazione esercitata dal potere, al benessere, all'orgoglio.

4. La Parola non porta frutto automaticamente: pur essendo divina - dunque onnipotente -, si adatta alle condizioni del terreno, o meglio, accetta le risposte che il terreno dà, e che possono essere anche negative. Mistero della condiscendenza di Dio, che giunge fino a mettersi completamente nelle mani degli uomini! Perché, in fondo, il seme deposto nei diversi terreni è Gesù stesso (cfr Gv 12, 24).

La lettura di questa parabola e della spiegazione data da Gesù ai suoi discepoli suscita in noi una doverosa riflessione. Noi siamo, cari Fratelli e Sorelle, il terreno nel quale il Signore depone instancabilmente il seme della sua Parola e del suo amore. Con quali disposizioni lo accogliamo? Quanto sappiamo farlo fruttificare?

5. San Giovanni Crisostomo, di cui facciamo memoria liturgica, scrive: "Ho con me la sua Parola: questa è il mio bastone, la mia sicurezza... Essa è mia fortezza e mia difesa" (cfr Omelie prima dell'esilio, nn. 1-3: PG 52, 428).

Il Papa affida oggi a tutti voi il tesoro di questa Parola, facendosi a sua volta seminatore fiducioso che depone nel segreto del cuore di ciascuno la "buona notizia" del Regno. Siate il terreno fertile e buono che, con l'abbondanza dei suoi frutti, consola le attese della Chiesa e del mondo.

"Inutili sono gli sforzi degli uomini quando non sono benedetti da Dio", recita ancora saggiamente un altro vostro proverbio. Invoco, perciò, su di voi e sul vostro impegno di vita cristiana le più copiose benedizioni dell'Altissimo. Amen!
