Il Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Inter Religioso e il Comitato Permanente di Al-Azhar al-Sharif per il Dialogo con le Religioni monoteistiche (Cairo, Egitto) hanno istituito, il 28 maggio 1998, un "Comitato per il Dialogo", al fine di promuovere una migliore conoscenza reciproca, un più grande rispetto tra cristiani e musulmani in vista del bene dell’umanità.
Pubblichiamo di seguito il comunicato redatto in occasione del raduno annuale del Comitato, svoltosi il 28 marzo 2000 a Roma:
COMUNICATO IN LINGUA ITALIANA
Il Comitato per il Dialogo, formato dal Comitato Permanente di Al-Azhar per il Dialogo con le Religioni Monoteiste (CPADRM) e dal Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Interreligioso (PCDI), ha tenuto la sua riunione annuale a Roma, martedì 28 marzo 2000, corrispondente al 23 Dhu al-Hijja 1420. La parte musulmana era guidata dallo Sheikh al-Zafzaf, Presidente del CPADRM, e la parte cattolica da Sua Em.za il Cardinale Francis Arinze, Presidente del PCDI.
All’inizio il Comitato ha studiato il significato della visita di Papa Giovanni Paolo II in Egitto, considerata come un evento storico senza precedenti. Il Papa è stato ben accolto a Al-Azhar e la sua testimonianza in favore dell’apertura e dell’equilibrio dell’Istituto è stata molto apprezzata. Per questo il Comitato ha deciso di scegliere il 24 febbraio, data della visita papale a Al-Azhar, come Giorno del Dialogo e data della propria annuale riunione.
E’ stata data ugualmente attenzione alla Giornata del Perdono, celebrata a Roma in San Pietro il 12 marzo. Il CPADRM ha presentato un memorandum che esprime la visione di Al-Azhar su questo evento.
Il Comitato si è anche soffermato su un altro avvenimento interreligioso di grande importanza: l’Assemblea interreligiosa che si è tenuta a Roma nell’ottobre 1999, su richiesta del Comitato Centrale per il Grande Giubileo dell’Anno 2000.
Il Comitato per il Dialogo, incoraggiato dai risultati positivi della visita del Papa ad Al-Azhar, continuerà la collaborazione attraverso il colloquio che la Facoltà di Teologia dell’Università di Al-Azhar (Kulliyat Usûl al-Dîn) e l’Università San Tommaso d’Aquino di Roma organizzeranno il prossimo mese di maggio per la prima volta, come pure attraverso le riunioni che detto Comitato terrà regolarmente in vista di una comprensione e collaborazione reciproche sempre migliori tra cristiani e musulmani.

Le Conseil Pontifical pour le Dialogue Interreligieux a créé, le 28 mai 1998, avec le Comité Permanent d’Al-Azhar pour le Dialogue avec les Religions monothéistes (Le Caire, Egypte), un « Comité pour le Dialogue » pour promouvoir une meilleure connaissance réciproque, et un plus grand respect entre chrétiens et musulmans en vue du bien de l’humanité. Le Comité se réunit une fois par an.
La réunion annuelle, la troisième dans la série, a eu lieu à Rome, le mardi 28 mars 2000. Le suivant communiqué de presse fut préparé.

Le Comité pour le Dialogue, constitué par le Comité Permanent d’Al-Azhar pour le Dialogue avec les Religions monothéistes (CPADRM) et le Conseil Pontifical pour le Dialogue Interreligieux (CPDI), a tenu sa réunion annuelle à Rome, le mardi 28 mars 2000, correspondant au 23 Dhu al-Hijja 1420. Le côté musulman fut présidé par le Sheikh Fawzi al-Zafzaf, Président du CPADRM, et le côté catholique par S.E. le Cardinal Francis Arinze, Président du CPDI.
Le Comité a d’abord étudié la portée de la visite du Pape Jean Paul II en Egypte, qu’il considère comme un événement historique sans précédent. Le Pape a été bien reçu à Al-Azhar et son témoignage en faveur de l’ouverture et la modération de l’Institut fut hautement apprécié. C’est pourquoi le Comité décide de choisir le 24 février, date de la visite papale à Al-Azhar, comme Jour du Dialogue et date de sa réunion annuelle.
Attention fut également donnée à la Journée du pardon, célébrée à Saint Pierre de Rome le 12 mars. Le CPADRM a présenté un mémorandum qui exprime la vision de Al-Azhar sur cet événement.
Le Comité s’est aussi penché sur un autre événement interreligieux de grande importance : l’Assemblée interreligieuse qui s’est tenue à Rome, en octobre 1999, à la demande du Comité du Jubilé 2000.
Le Comité, encouragé par les résultats positifs de la visite du Pape à Al-Azhar, continuera la collaboration à travers le colloque que la Faculté de Théologie de l’Université d’Al-Azhar (Kulliyat Usûl al-Dîn) et l’Université Saint Thomas d’Aquin, Rome, organiseront en mai prochain pour la première fois et à travers les réunions qu’il tiendra régulièrement en vue d’une compréhension et d’une collaboration toujours meilleures entre chrétiens et musulmans.

The Committee for Dialogue, set up by the Permanent Committee of Al-Azhar for Dialogue with Monotheistic Religions (PCADMR) and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID), held its annual meeting in Rome, 28 March 2000, corresponding to 23 Dhu al-Hijja 1420. Sheikh Fawzi al-Zafzaf, President of the PCADMR, presided for the Muslim side, while on the Catholic side the president was H.E.Cardinal Francis Arinze, President of the PCID.
The Committee studied first of all the significance of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Egypt, a visit considered to be one of historic importance and without precedent. The Pope was well received in al-Azhar and his witness to the openness and moderation of this Institute was highly appreciated. This is why the Committee has decided to designate 24 February, the date of the papal visit to al-Azhar, as Dialogue Day, and to choose it as the date for its annual meeting.
Attention was also given to the Day of Pardon, celebrated in St Peter's, Rome, 12 March. The PCADRM presented a memorandum expressing the vision of al-Azhar on this event.
The Committee also gave consideration to another interreligious event of great importance, the Interreligious Assembly held in Rome in October 1999 at the request of the Committee for the Jubilee of the Year 2000.
The Committee, encouraged by the positive results of the visit of the Pope to al-Azhar, will continue its collaboration through the colloquium which the Faculty of Theology of the University of al-Azhar (Kulliyat Usûl al-Dîn) and the University of St Thomas Aquinas, Rome, will organise for the first time this coming May, and also through its regular meetings in view of better understanding and collaboration between Christians and Muslims.
