The role of Artificial Intelligence in the world of Evangelization:
An anthropological, spiritual and technological challenge

Great Hall of the Pontifical Gregorian University

Piazza della Pilotta 4, Rome

What role can artificial intelligence play in the proclamation of the Gospel? What opportunities does it offer to the mission of the Church, and what questions does it pose at an anthropological, ethical and spiritual level? The conference “The role of Artificial Intelligence in the world of Evangelization: an anthropological, spiritual and technological challenge”, to take place on Saturday 13 June 2026 in the Great Hall of the Pontifical Gregorian University, will seek to answer these questions.

Promoted by the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian Univeristy and the Institute of the Holy Trinity, with the patronage of the Dicastery for Communication, the initiative will bring together scholars, theologians, communication experts and key figures in the contemporary debate around artificial intelligence to offer an interdisciplinary reflection on one of the most relevant issues of our time.

The day will begin at 10.30 with a greeting from the Reverend Fr. Amaury Begasse de Dhaem, S.J., Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University.

The conference will be inaugurated by Andrea Tornielli, Editorial Director of the Holy See Dicastery for Communication, who will offer a reflection on the challenges of artificial intelligence in the light of the magisterium of Pope Leo XIV, with particular attention to the risks of the manipulation of public opinion and ethical responsibility in digital communication.

This will be followed by a speech from Don Andrew Liaugminas, official of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and lecturer at the Pontifical Gregorian University, who will offer a theological, moral and spiritual reading of the questions posed by AI, exploring the prospects opened by the document Antiqua et Nova and reflecting on the implications of technological innovation for Christian life and the ecclesial mission.

The morning will conclude with a speech from Fr. Paolo Benanti, TOR, professor of ethics, bioethics and ethics of technology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, and one of the leading international experts in the field. His speech will focus on the most recent developments of artificial intelligence and the transformations it is already bringing about in contemporary society, with a look ahead to future prospects and their impact on daily life.

In the afternoon, starting at 14.00, there will be a discussion panel enabling further exploration of the relationshihp between AI, evangelization and formation of the person.

There will be interventions from Fr. Dariusz Kowalczyk, S.J., full professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University; Don Andrea Święciński, founder of the Glorious Trinity Movement and director of the Institute of the Holy Trinity; Fr. Laurent Touze, associate professor of Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross; and Mira Jankowska, journalist, formator and founder of the Master Academy of Love.

The debate will be moderated by Don Andrzej Chorománski, official of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.

The initiative is intended to offer a qualified contribution to ecclesial and cultural reflection on the new technologies, confronting artificial intelligence not only as a technical phenomenon, but as an issue that challenges our understanding of the human being, spiritual life and how to evangelize in the 21st century.

The day will conclude at 16.30 with the celebration of Holy Mass in the Basilica of the Santi XII Apostoli.
