The Solemnity of Corpus Domini in the diocese of Rome
On Sunday 7 June, at 17.30, Mass with Cardinal Vicar Reina in the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, followed by the Eucharistic Procession to Santa Croce in Gerusalemme
“This week we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, or, to use the more familiar Latin term, the Solemnity of Corpus Domini. In the Eucharist we contemplate Jesus, the bread broken and given for each one of us. Processions with the Blessed Sacrament, which take place in the streets of many towns, are an expression of popular Eucharistic devotion; in this regard, I encourage you to keep alive this beautiful manifestation of public witness to the faith”.
These are the words spoken by Pope Leo XIV last Wednesday, during the general audience, in his greetings to the Italian-speaking faithful. And this coming Sunday, 7 June, the diocese of Rome will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Domini. For the occasion, at 5.30 pm, Cardinal Vicar Baldassare Reina will celebrate Holy Mass in the Basilica of St John Lateran. The celebration will be preceded by the recitation of the Rosary and will be led by the Choir of the diocese of Rome, conducted by Monsignor Marco Frisina. At the end of the celebration, the Eucharistic procession will set off along Viale Carlo Felice and, finally, reach the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. The blessing will be imparted in front of the church, on the parvis.
Please note that attendance is free of charge; no ticket is required to enter the Lateran Basilica. However, in recent days, the tickets necessary for concelebration by priests and deacons have been distributed at the Office for Liturgical Formation of Vicariate.
ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES: Journalists and media operators who wish to participate must apply, no later than 12 noon on Saturday 6 June, exclusively via the Holy See Press Office online accreditation system, at: press.vatican.va/accreditamenti.
