PRESS RELEASE
Audience granted by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service
Vatican City, Paul VI Hall, Saturday 30 May
CHARIS – Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service, an organization established by the Holy See to serve Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide, is delighted to announce the audience granted by the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV to the whole of Catholic Charismatic Renewal, to be held in the Paul VI Hall on Saturday 30 May.
The meeting will be attended by thousands of faithful, leaders, priests, religious and laypeople from around 50 countries across the five continents, representing the many different communities that make up Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide.
The audience with the Holy Father represents a moment of profound ecclesial communion, of prayer and of renewed missionary zeal for the entire current of grace that is the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, called to live and bear witness to unity in the diversity of charisms, in the service of the Church and of evangelization.
This event takes on particular significance in the run-up to the 60th anniversary of Catholic Charismatic Renewal, which will be celebrated as a grateful remembrance of the Holy Spirit’s action in the life of the Church and as a renewed invitation to look with hope towards the future mission of the CCR in the world.
CHARIS was established by the Holy See as the sole international body of communion for Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Its aims include promoting the Baptism in the Holy Spirit amongst all members of the Church, serving the unity of the Body of Christ, and serving the poor, those most in need in every respect, both physical and spiritual. (Address by Pope Francis, 9 June 2019, Paul VI Hall)
The Holy Father will be in the Paul VI Hall from 10.30.
The moderator of CHARIS, Pino Scafuro, will bring greetings from the movement. At 13.00, the concluding Eucharistic celebration will take place, ending at 14.30.
The participants will include:
Cardinal Kevin Farrell – Prefect of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life; Michelle Moran, Leader and international evangelist; Patty Mansfield (pioneer of the CCR); Bishop Peter Smith (Ecclesiastical Assistant of CHARIS); Father Hayden Williams O.F.M. Cap., itinerant preacher; Anglican Archbishop Thomas Schirmacher; Francesca Fialdini (RAI presenter), and other international leaders.
During the audience, the participants will entrust to the Holy Father their expectations, hopes and the missionary commitment of the charismatic entities present in the world, reiterating their readiness to serve the Church with fidelity, joy and a spirit of communion.
