The diocese of Rome has received with great joy the news that on 7 March, the Holy Father Leo XIV granted his approval for the ordination of candidates to the priesthood and candidates to the permanent diaconate of the diocese of Rome, presented by the respective de Promovendis ad Ordines Sacros Commissions. The seven candidates to the permanent diaconate were examined by the Commission in its meeting on 9 February 2026, which expressed a favourable opinion regarding their admission to Ordination. The eight candidates to the priesthood were instead examined by the Commission gathered on 13 February 2026, which also concluded with a favourable opinion.
The candidates to the permanent diaconate of the diocese of Rome are: Attilio Altamura, Alfredo Arolchi, Roberto Carletti, Mauro Chialastri, Salvatore Cottu, Giuliano Ferrano and Igino Travaglino. They will be ordained on Saturday 18 April 2026, at 10.00, in the Papal Archbasilica of the Holy Saviour and of the Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist in Lateran, by the laying on of hands of His Eminence Cardinal Baldissare Reina, Vicar General of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV for the Diocese of Rome.
The candidates to the priesthood of the diocese of Rome are: Guglielmo Lapenna, Giorgio Larosa, Jos Emanuele Nleme Sabate, Giovanni Emanuele Nunziante Salazar, Antonino Ordine, Yordan Camilo Ramos Medina, Daniele Riscica and Cristian Sguazzino. They will be ordained by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV in Saint Peter’s Basilica on Saturday 26 April 2026, on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, or Good Shepherd Sunday; the time of the celebration will be communicated in due course.
This news is a cause for profound gratitude to the Lord and keen hope for the entire Church in Rome. The diocesan community accompanies these candidates with prayer, entrusting them to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, so that they may be faithful to the call they have received and become, following the heart of Christ, humble and joyful servants of the Gospel.
The diocese of Rome invites all the faithful to join in prayer for these brothers who are about to be ordained, and to invoke with confidence the gift of new and holy vocations to the priesthood and to the diaconate, so that the Lord may continue to build up His Church and to give generous pastors and ministers to His People.
