FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD – 26 JANUARY 2025

(Vatican City, 21 January 2025) – This 26 January 2025 will mark the sixth Sunday of the Word of God, instituted by Pope Francis on 30 September 2019 to remember the importance of the Sacred Scriptures. The motto of this edition is taken up by the Psalms: “I hope in your word” (Ps 119: 74). The Pope will preside over the celebration of Holy Mass in the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican at 9.30. At the end of the liturgy he will give the Gospel of Luke to those present, in the intention, by now a tradition, of spreading the Word of God in a tangible way.

During the celebration the Holy Father will confer the ministry of Lector to forty lay faithful, men and women from different nations: 4 from Albania, 3 from Argentina, 5 from Austria, 1 from Bolivia, 4 from Brazil, 5 from the Philippines, 1 from Iceland, 6 from Italy, 5 from Mexico, 1 from Poland, and 5 from Slovenia. A copy of the Nova Vulgata Bible will be given to each one of them, according to the rite.

To support the faithful in spiritual growth and in further exploring the Word of God, the Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelization in the World of the Dicastery for Evangelization has made available online, in six languages, a free liturgical-pastoral handbook, which may be downloaded from the official site www.evangelizatio.va. It is a tool offering proposals to favour a deep encounter with the Word of God in communities, in families, and in daily life, and also involves articles, meditations, texts for Adoration and pastoral suggestions.

The Sunday of the Word of God, now in its sixth edition, is an important occasion for Christians to renew their commitment to reading and reflecting on the Bible as a fundamental tool for growth in faith and in spiritual life, as well as an instrument of hope for the faithful all over the world.

Tickets to participate in the Holy Mass can be collected from the Jubilee 2025 Infopoint in Via della Conciliazione 7, starting from Thursday 23 January. Please note that since there is a limited number of tickets, they will be issued subject to availability.
