Press Release of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity

7 October 2024

The Holy Father has asked us to be particularly united in prayer, and by praying and fasting, to implore peace for all the world.

But prayer and fasting cannot be done without almsgiving, which must make us suffer, which must also hurt us, because we renounce something that belongs to us to give to our neighbour who is in difficulty or even about to die.

It is only right that we take up a collection this afternoon from all the Members of the Synod.

Therefore Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Almoner of His Holiness, before the beginning of today's afternoon Session, will stand with a basket in front of the central entrance door to Paul VI Hall, to collect the alms that will then be sent directly to the Gaza Strip, to the parish priest of Gaza, who has been called by the Holy Father every day for a year to support the Community that has gathered and lives around the Church (Christians, Muslims and Jews together).

The Almoner asks members to be well prepared.
