Collaboration Agreement between the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross
On Wednesday 7 February 2024, at Santa Marta, a collaboration agreement was signed by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, with the joint mission, proper to the Universal Church, of preventing abuse and of protecting minors and vulnerable adults.
The Agreement was signed by Cardinal Seán O’Malley, OFM, as President of the Commission, and the Reverend Luis Navarro as Magnificent Rector of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.
Cardinal O’Malley explained that “This understanding is part of the fabric of collaboration agreements the Commission signs with other ecclesial bodies in order to carry out its mission, and so we are grateful to the Holy Cross for its generosity in this project”.
The Rector of the Holy Cross commented: “We are happy to be of service to a crucial and common effort within the Church, and the Holy Cross wants to do its part”.
Specifically, the University of the Holy Cross will be able to host initiatives linked to the mission of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (Art. 2), and to promote the organization of seminars, training courses for teachers, students and non-teaching staff, as well as ongoing formation initiatives for Commission staff or internships for doctoral students at the same Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (Art. 5).
The two institutions will undertake to draw up an annual report on the initiatives carried out, which can be made public via their respective channels.
The collaboration is valid for three years, and may be renewed.
