FATHER ENZO FORTUNATO, COORDINATOR OF WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY

“I cannot but thank Pope Francis for having instituted the first World Children’s Day. As coordinator of the initiative, I will bring all my enthusiasm and my capacity to dream. And who, more than children, can teach us how? And what dream is greater than peace? Let us start out again from them, from their simplicity and desire for the future. And from the words of the Lord, drawm from Revelation, which the Holy Father has chosen as the theme and motto for the first edition of the Day: ‘Behold, I make all things new’”.

MARCO IMPAGLIAZZO, PRESIDENT OF THE SANT’EGIDIO COMMUNITY

“We are grateful to Pope Francis for proclaiming the first World Children's Day in May. In a time of war and lack of concern for the environment, there is a need to give a voice to the young generation, as the successful meeting in the Paul VI Hall with Pope Francis and thousands of children from all over the world on 6 November last year shows. We need to listen to the children because their voice is a convinced and explicit “no” to war and to the destruction of nature. Our Communities in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia - with their Schools of Peace - are preparing for this Day, so that it will be a timely occasion to put children, who are the present and the future of humanity, back at the centre of the world’s attention”.
