Presentation of the new entrance to the
NECROPOLIS OF THE VIA TRIUMPHALIS
From Piazza Risorgimento
Vatican City – On Tuesday 14 November 2023, the Directorate of the Vatican Museums will inaugurate the new entrance to the Necropolis of the Via Triumphalis. Access to the archaeological site will be possible directly from the Porta di Santa Rosa gate, the monumental entrance to the Vatican City State overlooking Piazza Risorgimento.
Visits to the Necropolis, until now always combined with visits to the Vatican Museums, have become increasingly popular over the years. Hence the decision to streamline entrance procedures, reserving exclusive and independent access to the archaeological site, even for individual visitors.
From 17 November next, therefore, it will be possible to directly access the famous archaeological area of the Necropolis along the Via Triumphalis to discover the fascinating “Life and Death in the Rome of the Caesars”.
Also, in view of the upcoming Jubilee - the Governorate of the Vatican City State is promoting a new guided tour experience of the Necropolis alone, which will be added to the rich cultural offering managed by the Vatican Museums, confirming, for those who have more time, the already popular combined Museums & Necropolis or Vatican Gardens & Necropolis tours.
The visits, currently scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays, can be booked exclusively online on the Vatican Museums official website.
