Pope Francis
Holy, not worldly
God’s grace saves us from interior corruption
Libreria Editrice Vaticana
This afternoon the Holy Father would like to present the members of the Synod with a new text bearing his signature, Holy, not worldly: God's grace saves us from interior corruption (Libreria Editrice Vaticana, in bookshops from today). It will be given to Synod participants in Italian (in paper format) and in Spanish and English (in digital format).
This text brings together two interventions by Pope Francis published at different times and junctures: an article dating back to 1991, originally titled Corrupción y pecado (Corruption and Sin), then republished in 2005 by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires; and secondly, the Letter to the priests of the diocese of Rome, circulated last 5 August.
As Pope Francis himself writes in the (unpublished) introduction, the intent in wanting to publish this text is motivated by a precise reason: “The concern, which I feel is a strong call from God to the whole Church, to remain vigilant and to fight, with the strength of prayer, against every yielding to spiritual worldliness”.
Journalists accredited to the Holy See Press Office are provided with the text in the three languages.
