Building the fraternity of peace: fifth meeting of the Synodal Jubilee Paths
Organized by the Fratelli tutti Foundation with the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter’s to discuss themes of the Encyclical “Fratelli tutti” in preparation for the Jubilee 2025
"Building the fraternity of peace”, the fifth meeting of the Synodal Jubilee Paths organized by the Fratelli tutti Foundation in collaboration with the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter's will be held on 23 September, starting at 14.00 in the New Synod Hall, Vatican City. The initiative, now in its second year, includes a series of meetings on the major themes of the Encyclical "Fratelli tutti", in preparation for the Jubilee 2025.
The symposium will be opened by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter's and president of the Foundation. Fr. Francesco Occhetta, S.J., secretary of the Foundation, will moderate the round table that will be attended by: Sergio Barbanti, Ambassador of Italy to Israel; Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, General, Inter-Forces Top Operational Command of the Defence General Staff; and Sr. Rita Giaretta, of the Anti-Trafficking Network USMI, Talitha Kum Italia, Founder of the Rut House Community.
"Building the fraternity of peace," says Father Occhetta, “is the second meeting for 2023, a year dedicated to the themes of reconciliation, the purification of memory and the building of social peace. The stages of this year's Synodal Jubilee Paths are entitled Paths of a new encounter. In order to nurture fraternity and arrive at the reconstruction of truth̀, the purification of memory and reconciliation, it is necessary to go through conflict and in it to explore paths of personal and social pacification. We do this with Chapter 7 of the Encyclical as our horizon, which contrasts reparation with revenge or exemplary punishment".
As usual, after the round table, participants will gather in dialogue groups to exchange impressions and opinions on the topics discussed and share their good practices; a moment of common sharing will then follow. The afternoon will conclude with a visit behind closed doors in Saint Peter's Basilica, a journey of contemplation and beauty in tune with the topics discussed.
The cycle of meetings, Synodal Jubilee Paths, began last year: with the appointments of 2022 the themes of proximitỳ and care were explored; this year it will be the turn of justice, conflict resolution and personal and social reconciliation; next year, 2024, the theme of political love will be dealt with.
The appointments are intended to offer civil society - from associations to business, from justice to education - the opportunity to get to know each other, exchange ideas and best practices in order to accept Pope Francis' invitation to open up to fraternity and social friendship, building together a new reality with an eye fixed on the horizon of the common good.
To participate in the meeting on 23 September, write to secretariat@fondazionefratellitutti.va, indicating the name, surname and telephone number of the participants.
