PRESS RELEASE

Tuesday 23 May, 15.30, Aula Baratto, Ca’ Foscari, Venice

SECRETARY OF STATE PAROLIN AT CA’ FOSCARI TO PRESENT A BOOK ON THE MAGISTERIUM OF JOHN PAUL I

Rector Tiziana Lippiello and editors Stefania Falasca and Flavia Tudini will be present

VENICE - On Tuesday 23 May, at 15.30, the book “The Magisterium of John Paul I. A historical and theological study through archive papers” will be presented. The event, which will be held in the Aula Baratto at Ca' Foscari, will be attended by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, in his capacity as president of the John Paul I Vatican Foundation.

The volume is the result of a study day promoted by the John Paul I Vatican Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Dogmatic Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University. On this occasion the main lines of the magisterium of John Paul I, who was later beatified by Pope Francis on 4 September 2022, were examined in depth in a substantially new perspective given by the recovery and reorganization of the papers from the private archive and the full critical edition of the texts and interventions of the Pontificate.

The contributions offer a reference for a careful theological-pastoral, historical, ecumenical and ecclesial reading of the Magisterium of John Paul I, which, although it could not unfold in history, contributed to strengthening the design of a conciliar Church that remains a point of reference in the universal Church.

The rector of Ca’ Foscari, Tiziana Lippiello, and Cardinal Parolin will open the event with institutional greetings.

Giovanni Vian, professor of History of Christianity and Churches at Ca' Foscari, will introduce the presentation. Enrico Galavotti, University of Chieti-Pescara, and Valentina Ciciliot, University of Ca' Foscari Venice, will then speak.

The editors of the volume, Stefania Falasca, Vatican expert and columnist for “Avvenire”, and Flavia Tudini, archivist at the John Paul I Vatican Foundation and lecturer at Roma Tre University, will also be present.

The press is invited to attend. Any requests for accreditation should be sent to comunica@unive.it.
