VATICAN CITY, 5 MAY - Throughout the month of May, a time that the Church dedicates in a special way to Marian devotion, Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican is once again this year organizing a series of celebrations and prayer appointments in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Starting on Saturday 6 May, and for every Saturday of the month, the recitation of the Holy Rosary with a procession aux flambeaux will be held in Saint Peter's Square at 21.00. The first event will be presided over by Archbishop Vittorio Francesco Viola, Secretary of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The following Saturday, 13 May, the prayer will be presided over by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of Vatican City State; on 20 May by Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod. The closing celebration, on the evening of 27 May, will be presided over by Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State of the Holy See.
Also on Saturdays, at 16.00 throughout the month, it will be possible to take part in the Marian Itineraries in the Basilica, prayer itineraries organized by Saint Peter's Parish at the icons in Saint Peter's Basilica depicting the Virgin Mary.
On the parvis of the Basilica there will also be Eucharistic Adoration, as usual, every first Tuesday of the month. The appointment for May is for Tuesday 9, at 20.00.
