PRESS RELEASE

La Sapienza and the Pontifical Council for Culture together for research

The Rector Antonella Polimeni and Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi signed today at 12.00 noon, at the Pontifical Council for Culture, a memorandum for cultural and scientific collaboration between the two institutions: it is the first time that an Italian university has signed a collaboration agreement with the Dicastery.

The Pontifical Council for Culture and Sapienza University of Rome have signed an important agreement for cultural and scientific cooperation to create joint research projects, courses, study days and seminars on topics related to the social, humanistic and scientific areas.

La Sapienza is the first Italian university to sign a collaboration agreement with the Vatican's Department of Culture. Among the topics covered by the partnership are the study of new forms of digital communication and new languages, the enhancement of the role of women and young people in the social sphere, and collaboration on artistic, archaeological and scientific topics.

“The Holy See's department dedicated to culture considers this official link with a great and important Italian and European institution to be very significant", said Cardinal Giancarlo Ravasi, “because it will enable dialogue regarding the multiple and complex themes of anthropology, science, digital culture and new social models".

“Today's agreement testifies to the solidity of the bond between the two institutions", commented Rector Antonella Polimeni, "and constitutes a valuable opportunity for scientific and cultural collaboration that I am certain will bear fruit in many fields of knowledge”.

The first activities to be launched concern collaborations on sport, digital culture, post-pandemic humanism and biofabrication.

The scientific coordination of the five-year agreement has been entrusted, for La Sapienza, to Alessandra Talamo of the Department of Psychology of Developmental and Socialisation Processes, and for the Pontifical Council for Culture to the undersecretary, Msgr. Carlo Maria Polvani.
