Dr Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora have issued the following statement regarding the Pope’s post-operative recovery:

This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled following the operation. The results confirm that his post-operative recovery is proceeding as expected: they are within the normal range for the type of operation performed.

The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has started walking around his room. He has resumed a regular diet, having had breakfast and lunch.

His recovery is proceeding as expected.
