In response to questions from journalists, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, has given the following statement:
The Pontifical Swiss Guard has received a report concerning an incident that took place at one of the entrances to Vatican City State, in which elements interpreted as having anti-Semitic connotations were allegedly detected. Based on a preliminary reconstruction, the report refers to a dispute that arose when a photograph was requested at the guard post. The matter is currently the subject of an internal investigation, initiated in accordance with the procedures established for reports involving members of the Corps. This procedure is being conducted in accordance with the principles of confidentiality and impartiality, and in compliance with current regulations.
The Pontifical Swiss Guard, in keeping with its centuries-old tradition of service, reaffirms its ongoing commitment to ensuring that its mission is always carried out with respect for the dignity of every person and the fundamental principles of equality and non-discrimination.
