The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, has stated as follows:

"This morning, His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, had a telephone conversation with His Excellency Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Cardinal, besides congratulating the President on the beginning of his mandate and raising issues of common interest, expressed the Holy See’s serious concern regarding current events in the Middle East, reiterating the need to avoid by any means the spread of the very grave ongoing conflict, instead favouring dialogue, negotiation and peace".
