In response to questions from journalists, the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, states:

“I can confirm that this morning a telephone conversation took place between the Pope and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The communication, requested by the latter, focused on the dramatic situation in the Holy Land. The Pope expressed his sorrow at what is happening, and reiterated the position of the Holy See, reaffirming his hope that the establishment of two defined States and a special statute for the city of Jerusalem may be achieved.”
